Communications, Marketing, and Digital Media Manager
Position SummarySculptureCenter is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced communications and marketing professional to further build SculptureCenters reputation as a place that offers artists an unparalleled opportunity for experimentation and discourse and that engages audiences with a provocative and exciting program of exhibitions and events. The Communications, Marketing, and Digital Media Manager reports directly to the Director of Advancement and works closely with all members of the SculptureCenter staff as well as the Board of Trustees, artists, strategic partners and independent contractors. The Communications, Marketing, and Digital Media Manager will spearhead all of the museums marketing and promotion activities, media relations, social media, audience development, and merchandise revenue, including Limited Editions. This position is responsible for developing and implementing innovative, pro-active strategies for communications to build broad and diverse constituencies and develop opportunities that further reinforce the identity of the museum while maximizing revenues. ---Specific duties and responsibilitiesMarketing and Public Relations:Develop creative strategies to promote the museums mission and specific programs. Write, edit and/or manage production of all printed and electronic promotional materials (exhibition announcements, invitations, advertisements, etc.) ensuring consistency and clarity. Identify potential marketing partnerships and implement collaborative projects. Sustain an active presence on all social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Twitter, Tumblr, eNewsletter, and eblasts. Develop and manage all content for social media and other digital promotions. Work closely with Operations Manager to develop content and maintain branding on website. Conduct media outreach and act as primary press contact for exhibitions, public programs, and events. Manage outside PR consultant(s). Cultivate and maintain direct relationships with editors and writers in print, broadcast, and electronic media. Secure media placements and reviews for Museum exhibitions, programs, events and institutional happenings.Maintain and promote SculptureCenter brand, refining and implementing organizational style guide. Oversee all printed and digital collateral materials; manage outside designer(s). Maintain SculptureCenter brand throughout the museum, including: Visitor Service desk, didactic materials, and inventory and merchandising for museum shop.Additional responsibilities include management of other areas of earned income revenue including facility rentals, and publications.Limited Edition projects: In conjunction with the Executive Director and Curator, identify artists to produce limited edition artworks to benefit SculptureCenter. Work directly with artists to develop artwork, research and coordinate production and packaging. Design and execute marketing and sales strategy for each edition and for the program as a whole, which may include advertising, art fairs, direct mail, and/or events. Meet annual earned income revenue goals for Limited Edition sales.Community Relations: Work closely with other community organizations reaching out to neighborhood residents and businesses, peer organizations locally, nationally and internationally. Represent SculptureCenter at art openings, community meetings and events, and art world events. Oversee production of Annual Block Party, securing sponsorships, vendors, and in-kind contributions. Develop and manage marketing and promotions. Work closely with Exhibitions and Programs Manager to program artists, activities, and talent. Work with Operations Manager to secure permits, street closings, rentals, etc.---QualificationsThe ideal candidate will possess an advanced knowledge of the contemporary art world, an entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, and enthusiasm for promoting arts and culture. Requirements include:A bachelors degree.A minimum of three years experience working in a museum, gallery, or communications firm with increasing responsibility, and knowledge of the contemporary art field and artists. Exceptional written and oral communication skillsDemonstrated leadership abilityExcellent organizational and interpersonal skillsExperience managing a budgetAn ability to develop positive, effective relationships with Board members, art collectors, donors, journalists, and colleagues is critical.
