Gallery and Administrative Assistant
The primary role of this position is to provide support at an independently owned art and antiques gallery with holdings of 16th 19th century prints, maps, rare books, paintings, and antiques. The Gallery Assistant's main responsibility is to provide assistance in the form of cataloging, organizing and record keeping of inventory of all works in and out of the gallery. There is a great wealth of material that needs proper organization in an orderly manner. This person will also be asked to answer phones, make copies, order office supplies, maintain the client database, conduct basic research, and greet clients. This person at times will be called upon to assist the salespeople and auction staff of the gallery in other various administrative tasks.Requirements:- BA/BS from an accredited institution, preferably in art history, history, or museum studies- Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop & InDesign is preferred- Strong organization and communication skills- Strong attention to detail- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint- Previous Photography experience beneficial- Experience with works on paper or the decorative arts is a plus, particularly of the 16th to 19th centuries- Valid drivers licenseThis is a full time, permanent position. The employee will work five days a week, 10am 6pm. Saturday shifts will be expected and attendance at gallery functions and auction days are required. Ideal candidate should be a professional, cheerful, and enthusiastic individual comfortable handling daily administrative tasks and client interactions in a high-pressure, but vibrant environment.
