Li

'Li' is my most recent series of paintings. The paintings respond to this ancient idea of repeated forms appearing throughout nature. I like to play with ideas of scale in my work, the canvases are usually larger than the person viewing them, however the important part for me is the detail within them. The works tap into a feeling of familiarity, viewers often see shapes or feel something evocative of a natural landscape. This again returns back to the idea of repeated forms, for example vein like paint trails may remind one person of veins on a human body, but someone else of an areal view of a giant river breaking off into different directions as it wiggles and cuts through the landscape. Every viewer has a unique and visceral response.
