Open Call for Puppetry Papers - (all research areas considered)
Moving Parts is a brand new performance and training festival situated in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, focussing on puppetry, mask and object manipulation. Spanning six days across fourvenues, the ambitiousevent is especially geared towards adults, teenagers, emerging artists and professional practitioners.
We are looking for submissions to our Open Call for Puppetry Papers for our Tk4: Puppetry Research Conference happening on Saturday 1st April 2017, 1-3pm at Space Six in Newcastle.
Research papers can be on any subject, area of study or in any format within the world of puppetry, mask, stop-animation and object manipulation, such as social, health, historical, artistic, philosophical, anthropological, political etc. Papers must be able to be presented (or in part thereof) within 20 minutes at the Puppetry Research Conference, ideally by the writer or by someone you have entrusted. We welcome submissions that use visual demonstrations, images and even live puppetry, but it is not a requirement. You do not need to be an academic or official researcher to submit a paper. Submissions can also be solely demonstrated through performance and other means.
The ethos behind the conference is to promote networking between puppetry researchers at all stages in their career, but also to start infiltrating the benefits of puppetry further into academia. This in turn we hope will help puppetry be integrated more into other areas of life, such as mental health therapy. We will be developing this strand in future festivals, and are now looking for partnership, particularly with universities, theatre practitioners and health organisations.
Deadline: 10th March 2017
