Creative Knitting Workshop

An event hosted by talented textile artist Rosina Godwin, one of the artists who exhibited last years Platform for Emerging Arts 16 exhibition

This workshop will provide you with the perfect opportunity to get a basic understanding of the techniques and gain skills that can be translated into a unique and highly creative skill.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

The workshop explores knitting as a method of making both 2D and 3D artworks. The session focuses on combining yarns with found objects and using unconventional materials (wire, garden twine, fabric, etc ) to create mood, character, and narrative.

1) Introductions

- Everyone discusses what knitting/ textiles and art experience they have.

2) Knitting

- Basic knitting technique/ circular knitting (joined needles/ 3+4 needles).

- Narrative through materials ( choice of yarns, combining more than one yarn and materials, perhaps recycling any old of sentimental objects). Incorporating fabric strips, wire & garden twine & basic construction.

3) Discussions

- Rosina will discuss techniques including: felting knitted items, painting knitting with e.g latex and threading objects onto the yarn e.g buttons.

- This section is designed to elaborate on how knitted objects can be translated into sculptural forms and to advance your own ideas on the results that can be achieved by creative knitting.

WHAT ATTENDEES SHOULD BRING:

All experiences welcome. We will supply basic materials, but if you have them please bring yarns, knitting needles, crochet hooks, sewing needles, thread, and items such as buttons, sequins, beads, etc (i.e. anything which can be threaded through a yarn).
