Continuing (i.e. permanent) position

Ilam School of Fine Arts at the University of Canterbury offers an intensive studio based programme across painting, sculpture, photography, film and graphic design. As the oldest art school in New Zealand, Ilam continues to generate dynamic graduates who are critically engaged with a high degree of conceptual and technical ability. This boutique and discipline specific studio model provides a rigorous framework for students to develop an awareness and a language for their practice in a hothouse environment at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The School of Fine Arts is inviting applications for the role of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Photography (0.5FTE). The successful candidate will offer practical and theoretical guidance to students across the undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in cooperation with the existing Senior Lecturer in Photography. It is important that candidates have a significant research practice based in fine art and documentary photographic image making and are highly regarded/recognised in their chosen field of endeavour. They should have an intimate knowledge of the processes underlying photography-including analogue/darkroom and alternative processes as well as digital workflow and related current artistic enterprise-with a sound grasp of the issues that inform such practice. It is critical they have a strong track record of teaching photography and related areas at a tertiary level. This part-time, continuing (permanent) position entails teaching into the undergraduate programme and supervising postgraduate students in the School of Fine Arts.
