About Artslink International Education:

Founded in 2009, Artslink International Education Centre is one of the foremost private providers of art & design education in eastern China, preparing students to study at the world’s top overseas art & design universities. Through delivery of pre-bachelor & pre-masters level provision and summer schools, Artslink has provided comprehensive creative arts education to exceptional young Chinese talents for close to 10 years.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced educator to become Pathway Leader in graphic design or interior design (dependent on candidate’s background), based at Artslink’s Shanghai headquarters.

Main responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare and develop schemes of work, project briefs and assignments.
  • Work with pathway tutors to professionally develop resources and materials as required.
  • Deliver a variety of design related programmes including tutorials and workshops.
  • Develop links with industry partners, including introducing live project briefs where appropriate.
  • Supervise the Centre’s pathway teaching staff, providing feedback and suggestions for further development where applicable in conjunction with the Academic Director.
  • Give guidance to staff on Western pedagogic practice and deliver staff training relevant to the subject area.
  • Maintain and update knowledge of educational research to develop evidence-based practice.
  • Assist, when requested, with the delivery of the Centre’s other provision (including summer schools).
  • Participate when required in the Centre’s marketing initiatives, including Open Days, school visits, exhibitions and recruitment fairs as requested by the Centre Director.

Person specification:

Essential criteria

  • Masters degree in the relevant subject area
  • Ideally 3-5 years university-level teaching experience relevant to the subject area
  • Related industry experience / professional practice
  • Proven ability to work in a team
  • High level written and oral communication skills
  • Pedagogic skills for the development of effective learners
  • Enthusiasm for education and an educational environment
  • Flexibility and cultural awareness

Desirable criteria

  • Teaching certification
  • Experience working in an international environment and/or with students for whom English is a second language
  • Experience teaching students from mainland China and/or experience travelling to the region previously

Compensation and benefits:

  • Starting salary of 240,000 CNY (equivalent to USD 34,500 / GBP 27,300) with relative low cost of living
  • Free return airfare between China and your home country per year
  • Accommodation subsidy of 2,000 CNY/month and assistance in finding suitable private housing in Shanghai (free initial hotel stay provided)
