To assist the Assistant Technical Manager (LX) in managing the Electrical Department: providing assistance to visiting companies, supervising and training casual staff, and maintaining the venue's electrical facilities and equipment.
To work when required as show crew on productions, including as follow spot operator, stage electrician or duty electrician. As duty electrician to respond to fire alarm activations and carry out an important role in the investigation and evacuation procedure backstage.
The position is a full-time permanent post, subject to a 6 month probation period.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
To welcome visiting company staff, and assist with their requirements during their stay at the Bristol Hippodrome
To ensure the smooth running of fit ups, get outs and shows, in line with health and safety legislation and the requirements of the visiting company
To implement and comply with the company Health & Safety Policy, maintaining the safest possible environment for your colleagues, visiting companies and customers
To assist in the scheduling and calling of casual electrical staff as dictated by production requirements, while ensuring that statutory rest breaks for staff are adhered to
To ensure that the electrical installation within the venue is safe and that faults are dealt with promptly
In conjunction with other full-time staff, to implement a training programme for casual staff to ensure competency in key stage skills
To undertake training courses as required - e.g. working at height, rescue from height, PPE inspection, anchor point testing, portable appliance testing, use of pyrotechnics, rigging. First aid at work training will be offered if desired
To ensure that only qualified, trained and experienced personnel are allowed to operate electrical equipment within the venue and that they adhere to the company Health & Safety Policy
To complete regular inspections of electrical equipment within the venue and to carry out PAT testing in line with health and safety legislative requirements
To ensure that lighting levels within the building are adequate, and that all light fittings are in working order, completing and documenting daily lamp rounds and ordering lamp stock as required
To maintain and operate the house projection and sound equipment for screening adverts, and to assist visiting companies in using the house sound system
To set up equipment for access performances (captioned, signed, audio described and relaxed)
To complete regular inspections of PPE and anchor points for working at height
To carry out the duties of the Assistant Technical Manager (LX) when required
To work with other technical teams (stage and maintenance) as required
To undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the venue management
