Troy House Art Foundation is seeking an artist’s assistant/videographer for Yuan Gong, the Foundation’s Director. This role involves project managing and assist in the production of Yuan Gong’s artistic practice and documenting his works for the archive.

Yuan Gong, born in Shanghai in 1961, is a Chinese contemporary artist. He has obtained a PhD degree in theory of art at the Chinese National Academy of Arts in 2012, but has immersed himself in different aspects of Chinese contemporary art since the 1990s. Being both creator and researcher, designer and planner, Yuan Gong is a multi-faceted artist playing at the interface of conceptual art, performance and fine arts. Using a large variety of media, his artworks address many philosophical questions, reflecting his concerns about the Chinese society and impugning the art system, the exhibition format and the status of the artwork.

In recent years, Yuan Gong has participated in major exhibitions including China8 at the Muelheim Art Museum, Secret Signs at the Deichtorhallen Museum, the collateral event “Voice of the Unseen” of the 55th Venice Biennale, the thematic exhibition at the China Pavilion of the 54th Venice Biennale, the Copenhagen Art Festival, the 6th Prague Contemporary Art Festival, and the inaugural Beijing 798 Biennale. His artworks have been collected by the Guangdong Museum of Art, the Hubei Museum of Art, the Arthur Sackler Museum of Peking University, White Rabbit Collection, and part of the Sigg Collection of Chinese Contemporary Art.

Artist’s Assistant/Videographer

Location: London, South West, SW11 7AX and Troy House, Monmouth, Wales (accommodation provided for Wales)

RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage Yuan Gong’s artistic production and documentation of works

Project managing and overseeing the filming and documentation process

Responsible for shooting video campaigns

Order and test camera and lighting equipment

Assist the artist in their daily work

Assist in academic research and contextual components of the artworks

Undertake market research and operational tasks

Engage with the public and partners across projects

REQUIREMENTS

Have a bachelor’s or master’s degree, preferably majoring in Moving Image, Film Production, Visual Art or related subjects;

Have a strong sense of design and aesthetics with the ability to conceptualize ideas and bring these to realization as 2D /3D environments;

Be proficient in video software including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign and Premier Pro, and Final Cut Pro;

Be proficient in in photography and videography; advanced knowledge of technical specifications and equipment;

Excellent command of verbal and written skills in BOTH Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) and English. (this is essential for all applications);

Be self-motivated, creative, detail-oriented, efficient and well-organised with good translation skills;

Proof of eligibility to work in the UK

Must possess a full clean driving license to travel easily between Wales and London
