Fixed Term Contract for 6 months

The Role

As Hunger Magazine’s Editorial Assistant will support the day-to-day running of our website HUNGERTV.com with the online team. You will be an open-minded writer with creative ideas and your finger on the pulse of culture and fashion. The assistant will be able to work to tight deadlines, to write, research and pitch about a variety of topics as well as be flexible to help with tasks assigned by the Online Editor.

Responsibilities

Write 2 articles a day for HUNGERTV.com on a range of subjects in the sectors of Art & Culture, Fashion, Beauty, Photography, Film and Music.

Build and optimize your own stories in the CMS, writing headlines, excerpts and meta data.

Assist with HUNGER’s social media management, using SEO and scheduling platforms.

Pitch feature ideas for the site to the Online Editor.

Research, transcribe and edit as required.

Essential skills

Excellent writing, literacy and grammar skills.

Proficiency in all Microsoft Office.

Experience using a CMS system such as WordPress.

Full of creative, fresh and forward-thinking ideas.

A strong voice and point of view.

A clear understanding of HUNGER’s audience and aesthetic.

An avid interest in fashion, beauty, music, art and culture in general.

At least a year’s journalism or publishing experience (may include internships and freelance work).

Ability to work independently, using initiative, and also as part of a team.

Ability to work to quick and strict deadlines and work under pressure.

Desirable skills

Experience in SEO and social media scheduling systems such as Echobox.

Experience writing commercial or branded content.

Proficiency in Photoshop and InDesign.

Experience liaising with PRs.
