Internships at Rubber City Prints

 

Rubber City Prints is a non-profit fine art print shop in Akron, OH with a focus on printmaking education. We are currently seeking part time internships for the 2018-2019 year, Spring, Summer and Fall. Our internships provide a great experience for students with opportunity for school credit and trade for hours in our print shop. All internships vary in time frame, depending upon experience and availability, and last between 3-9 months. Please be advised that all of our internships are unpaid, school credit only internships. Hours can be traded for hours of studio use or used as $10 an hour towards current/future workshops. All of our interns will work one-on-one with directors, volunteers, instructors and other interns during the internship. All graduates are trained as senior level interns and provided with more training on management areas. All Master's degree program applicants have chance to work in administrative positions that include planning and coordinating programs, workshops, events, workshops and fundraisers.  A Midterm and Final review will be provided by Board of Directors for all internships.

Qualifications 

Applicants must have recently graduated or are currently working towards a Bachelors Degree or Masters Degree in: Printmaking, Fine Arts, Art Education, Graphic Design, English, Communications, Arts Administration, Grant Writing, Marketing, Non-profit/business; related degrees please apply. Applicants must be well-organized, friendly, prompt to work, and communicate with RCP associates on a regular basis. All applicants must have weekday and/or weekend availability with a minimum of 8-30 hours per week. Hours each week will vary by school internship requirements, your schedule and availability. 

 

All interns must go through orientation & training before they receive a key to Rubber City Prints. Preferred experience in any of the following: Computer Literacy MAC/PC experience in all of the following Photoshop, PowerPoint, In Design, Microsoft Office, Social Media Websites, Mail Chimps, etc. - Knowledge of office management processes and procedures - Expertise in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) - Proven time management skills and the ability to prioritize - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Strong problem solving skills and research skills - Advanced organizational skills, ability to multi-task and attention to detail - Knowledge of operating standard office equipment

 

Benefits

Our Credit only internship provides a great experience. At RCP you get a trade for hours during your internship for future use of our studio and equipment. Students/graduates will also be able to use the trade at $10 an hour towards Rubber City Prints Workshops. You get to sit in as assistants during workshops and learn how printmaking can influence the future of your designing career. You will gain access to trainings on teaching, marketing, social media, and non-profit background business.  All interns that complete an internship will be able to return at any time with Key Access to complete studio hours. 

 

 

The Studio Intern

        Monitor Open Studios and Gallery hours as needed; greet customers, provide tours and provide demonstrations for general public.  Provide information on memberships offered, encourage hands on printmaking and print sales. Gain experience assisting artists, educators, instructors and volunteer staff during open studios.

        Assist in set up or breakdown of exhibitions, workshops, and activity booths.

        Assist on daily shop schedule/activities, organizing, and regular promotion of workshops and artists on promotional sites.

        Assist Fine Art Instructors and students at in-house workshops and on-the-go printmaking and art education at local schools, libraries, and group meet-ups. Assist on Demonstrations,  Fine Art Education, and Vendor/Activity Stands. 

        Prepare materials/stencil/signs for workshops, area advertising, art shows and take inventory of supplies

        Prepare Still Life for Open Draw/Advertising, Create Artwork for Workshop examples, Record works in progress. Gain experience assisting on special projects and print shop commissions.

        Opportunities to teach workshops to youth at the printshop, schools, libraries, and vendor/activity stands.  Training Provided.

        Opportunities to Assist in Gallery and gain experience seeking artists, preparing call for entries, and understanding standards/ethics of handling artists works. Training Provided.

 

Marketing/Social Media Intern

        Create advertisements, email blasts, event postings, online storefront, blog posts. etc. Interview Artists for blog/social media.

        Take regular photos at events and upload to drive. Use photos, Still lifes, and art (with permission) for creation of print projects and designs for advertising.

        Attend meet-ups outside of Rubber City Prints and socialize with potential clientele and educate the local community about RCP. Also Educate during events such as; Art Walk, vendor stands and special events

        Make phone calls to organize the hosts for our vendor/activity booths for summer marketing.

        Assist board members with promotion drop off and donation pick up at local area shops, businesses, and events and leave information to help promote Rubber City Prints. Training Provided. 

        Expand outreach on free posting sites, social media outlets and promotional marketing tools

        Keep all materials, printed and digital, up to date for the public by working with the Director on updates

    Follow Rubric to Create Advertising Schedule for Workshops, Events, and fundraisers. 

    Assist with creation of powerpoint from with outlines provided by Board of  Directors.  Assist with creation of timelines and tracking success through feedback forms and surveys. 

Keep track of fine art print sales, service sales, via spreadsheet/Google docs, update binders and advertising as needed

        Assist with coordinating volunteers, instructors, workshops and events. 

        Daily office task such as; making phone calls, follow-up emails, data entry, ordering supplies, assisting with special projects as needed 

        Attend volunteer and board meetings on budgets, grant writing research, and committees formation; take notes

        Regularly assist with research on grants, opportunities, artists, and promotional strategies.  Keep everything organized through outlines and the use of spreadsheets/data entry.
