Digital Imaging Specialist

Reporting to the Head of Imaging and Intellectual Property, the Digital Imaging Specialist supports the creation of digital assets using multiple strategies and driven by institutional strategic priorities.  The Digital Imaging Specialist operates the mobile photography setup, photographing all gallery installations, rotations, focus shows and special exhibitions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Book and Paper Digitization
  • Works closely with the Head of Imaging and Intellectual Property, the Curator of Manuscripts and Rare Books and the Head of Books and Paper Conservation to prioritize art objects, determine suitability for imaging, manage workflow and exert quality control.
  • Operates the Stokes Imaging system in order to capture high-resolution images of each art object.
  • Inputs digital data to ensure consistent work flow and quality of images by verifying and organizing digital data to maintain accuracy and completeness, entering metadata related to each image in a precise manner to achieve an error free data set and assessing and solving color correction and image processing to maintain consistent quality using color calibration tools.
  • Performs image data transfers to digital repositories and uploads to ResourceSpace in a timely manner.
• Digitization
  • Spearheads all scanning projects, working to digitize, catalogue and pack all analog assets with the help of the Imaging and Rights Coordinator.
• Support Photography
  • Works with the Head of Imaging and Intellectual Property to understand prioritization, sequence workflow and meet institutional deadlines with regard to gallery, special exhibition institutional, architectural and product photography as needed.
  • Utilizes the mobile photography lab to systematically capture and document subjects completely, identifying and highlighting areas of interest, thoughtfully moving through the space and accommodating all special requests.
  • Processes, edits and completes postproduction work for all images and uploads them to ResourceSpace, ensuring that all required and relevant metadata is entered.
  • Assists photographer with traditional studio object photography as needed.
• Safety and Security
  • Implements and performs safety measures for the safe handling of collection objects to minimize risk or damage of any kind in accordance with guidelines and best practices.

Requirements:

• BA- concentration in Photography, Digital Imaging, Cinematography, or Video
• Minimum 3 years of professional and applicable work experience in handling works of art or other fragile materials.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Attentive to detail
• Good oral and written skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills essential in the interaction with various museum divisions and external customers.
• Familiarity and understanding of photographic techniques, image software and digital imaging tools.
• Must have strong computer skills to include Microsoft Office.
