Full-time Assistant/Associate Professor of Animation

Montserrat College of Art is seeking a highly invested professional to teach animation within the Visual Communication and Design Division. This is a new position to support the needs of a growing student population and department. Responsibilities would begin in the fall semester of 2019.

Major Functional Areas and Description of Duties:

In addition to faculty duties, which include teaching courses at the undergraduate level, advising and mentoring students, and service to the college, responsibilities for this position will include researching, networking, and starting to develop the idea of an in-house production studio with a goal of creating festival-quality animated shorts. The productions, done in conjunction with teams of upper-level undergraduate students, will provide additional opportunities for teaching animation as they apply to a variety of media and professional applications.

The Division places the highest value on both conceptual image making and verbal development of each student. The Visual Communication and Design division at Montserrat College of Art has grown significantly in the past three years and is looking for applicants that have a strong desire to expand and develop this exciting learning environment. In addition to classroom teaching, all faculty are expected to actively participate in departmental meetings and activities, curriculum development, committee work, student advising, and portfolio review panels.

Qualifications:

Because an important part of this new position involves the development of an in-house production studio and the production of animated shorts, work experience in and the understanding of the current animation industry is critical. Classroom experience and/or significant team leadership is also essential.  Candidates must have a minimum of a completed Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a MFA degree in visual communication, illustration, animation, interactive design, or a related field and have at least two years of college-level instructional experience in practical and critical aspects of animation production and have at least one year of experience working directly in the animation industry. Consideration may be given to candidates with a B.A. or B.F.A. who possess three to five years of  professional experience in animation production or an interactive arts related industry.
