CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan, implement, administer, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate all assigned MainStage and off-site production functions and activities

Oversee technical operations, including lighting, sound, set design and assembly, and any other special production requirements for all MainStage and off-site events; assist as needed with production stage management and/or technical direction

Confer regularly with the Artistic Director, Education Director, other programming staff, and other Flynn personnel and departments to plan, coordinate, and evaluate programs, facilities, systems, and activities

Plan and implement production department staffing needs and schedules

In conjunction with the Facilities Manager, ensure safety compliance of Flynn Center campus; assume overall responsibility of ensuring safety compliance of production staff at all times

Develop and administer stage maintenance and departmental operating budgets for MainStage and off-site productions; participate in planning of short and long-range capital projects involving stage and facility improvements

Evaluate rental requests and programming proposals to provide budget estimates and bring forward any feasibility issues; make recommendations to address feasibility issues

Approve Flynn-provided stage design and layout services for small users on the MainStage

Oversee negotiation of labor and equipment needs for Flynn productions with artists and production companies

Negotiate with product vendors for purchase or rental of production and stage equipment

Serve as principal liaison to production personnel of all users of the MainStage and off-site productions; together with the appropriate Flynn technical and management staff, advance all technical aspects of events via phone or e-mail communication in addition to hosting site visits as necessary; support FlynnSpace Managers with these parallel tasks

Oversee MainStage and off-site show activity, including but not limited to executing and supporting non-union production staff as they make contact and welcome outside production personnel, monitor labor check-in, supervise labor, keep accurate hours for payroll processing, initiate appropriate breaks, monitor stage parking lot, and parking related activities

Review and approve bi-weekly payroll for full- and part-time union employees, as well as direct reports among production department staff

Be highly familiar with, adhere to, and accurately execute all related aspects of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between IATSE local union 919 and the Flynn Center; provide the Flynn with insights, recommendations, and requested information during renewal negotiation process

Ensure there is no displacement for visiting artists' production teams and Flynn crew

Serve as liaison with union representatives regarding labor contract issues

As needed and as appropriate, resolve conflicts for regular full- and part-time union employees; support the conflict resolution process as required

Work with Facilities Manager to coordinate and implement necessary facility maintenance; assign staff appropriately to ensure the campus is secure

Collaborate with box office and administrative staff in preparing night-of-show financial settlements, reconciliations, and show billings

Maintain inventory of all stage and production equipment; oversee and maintain appropriate inventory, supplies, and equipment through an inventory control system

Stay abreast of new developments in the field; recommend and implement new policies and procedures; attend appropriate professional meetings

Plan, implement, and administer appropriate departmental reporting and recordkeeping systems; prepare a variety of administrative reports; maintain proper records of events and maintenance

Serve on various committees as needed, such as the Buildings & Grounds Committee

Attend interdepartmental meetings as required

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Direct administrative and functional supervision of Technical Coordinator & Lighting Director, part-time Production Stage Manager for the MainStage

Administrative and functional supervision, direct and indirect, of Assistant Manager/Technical Director of FlynnSpace, all IATSE union employees, including regular House Electrician, House Carpenter, and House Soundman, and indirect supervision of maintenance staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree plus 6 to 8 years of relevant professional, technical, and supervisory experience in live performance productions, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired

Broad base of knowledge and skills related to technical theater production, including lighting, sound, counter-weight fly systems, chain hoists, and stage carpentry

Strong production management skills and experience

Strong personnel and labor relations skills

Ability to maintain situational awareness, flexibility, and the leadership capabilities required to quickly understand and adapt to changing conditions

Ability to act diplomatically

Knowledge of computer design and control software, such as lighting programming and sound control systems

Highly organized with a keen attention to detail

Strong planning, administrative, organizational, and budgeting skills

Flexibility and fluidity around task prioritization

Ability to deal effectively with a broad range of individuals and groups within and outside the organization

Strong written and oral communication skills

Calm composure under pressure and when pulled in many different directions

Comfortable with new and evolving technologies; familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, database, and calendar systems

Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, with openness to occasionally being "on call" in emergency situations
