The Moth – hailed as “New York’s hottest and hippest literary ticket” by The Wall Street Journal – is an acclaimed not-for-profit organization dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling. The Moth has presented more than thirty thousand stories, told live and without notes, by people from all walks of life to standing-room-only crowds worldwide.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Moth seeks a vibrant professional to join our production team as a full-time Assistant Producer. The Assistant Producer will provide support to the production team -- with specific focus on event promotion and scheduling, database management, archival projects, and live event production.  In addition to managing all of the ticketing and e-blasts for The Moth’s StorySLAMS, the Assistant Producer will manage designated SLAM markets and produce Moth Mainstage events.

Logistic

  • Build promotional schedule, e-blasts and ticketing for all StorySLAM markets
  • Manage a minimum of five SLAM markets, including for each market:
  • Negotiate venue contracts, including SLAM schedule
  • Manage media sponsorship relationship
  • Hire, train and manage regional SLAM producers
  • Hire subcontractors in regional SLAM markets, as needed
  • Review and report on SLAM financials; ensuring invoices are in order, in collaboration with Finance team
  • Regularly update SLAM working budget to accurately reflect ticket sales, costs and number of shows in each market.
  • Assist in hiring, training and managing of production interns

 

Event Production

 

  • Produce Moth Mainstages (3-day travel required for each)
  • Take on strategically appropriate travel for SLAM launches
  • Take on strategically appropriate production of specialty events in New York City and regional SLAM markets
  • Opportunity to freelance produce one or more SLAM events in NYC; freelance opportunities are paid in addition to annual salary

Creative

  • Assist in brainstorming, presenting and implementing plan to increase national StorySLAM awareness, attendance, and audience diversification in each market, including management of regional listing
  • Screen SLAM stories for Podcast and Radio Hour consideration
  • Re-evaluate assigned markets each season

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Excellent analytical and writing skills
  • Ability to gather information from a variety of sources and formats
  • Sensitivity to different perspectives from around the world and ability to communicate effectively with people from different cultural and educational settings
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills, detail and deadline-oriented
  • Computer skills: Excel (required), Patron Manage/Salesforce (preferred)
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree plus two years relevant experience preferred
  • Live event Production experience preferred
