The Education Internship is an opportunity for the intern to develop an understanding of art and cultural education programming. The intern will work closely with Education department staff on the development and implementation of school, family, and youth programs as part of inHarlem, a set of initiatives designed to take the Museum beyond its walls, to encompass a wide range of artistic ventures, from site-specific artists' projects, to programs in historic parks, libraries, schools and partner organizations in Harlem. Advanced planning for programs requires a great deal of organization, creativity, and research. The intern will research artists and artworks featured in artist projects and the permanent collection; develop discussion topics and art-making workshop ideas for programs; assist with content development for museum educator training materials; research performers, teaching artists, authors, and other potential program participants; and receive training on leading inquiry-based discussions around works of art. The intern will assist museum educators with workshops; spearhead outreach strategies; and perform day-to-day tasks and administrative support. Some evening and weekend hours are required of the position.
