JUNIOR GRAPHIC DESIGNER

H+k design is looking for a smart, thoughtful and technically savvy print designer, eager to learn and grow, for on-site work in Manhattan. We’re a small agency with very tight deadlines--qualified candidates must absolutely feel comfortable with close collaboration and high expectations. A sense of humor and flexibility are a huge, monster-sized plus. 

We’ll be looking for the following in any of the candidates. Show us you’ve read this carefully!

1. Comfortable with text-heavy layouts including (but not limited to) annual reports, financials, infographics, editorial and book design projects. We need someone who understands grids and margins, style sheets, tables and charts, as well as the core principals of print production. 

2. A true, can’t-ignore-it obsession with detail. Our work depends on getting client edits turned around quickly and, above all, accurately. You must feel comfortable formatting content from multiple sources (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, PDFs, scans) while staying organized and on schedule. 

3. Knowing when to ask questions and when to do a little research. We love helping one another, but we ALSO love solving issues ourselves before bringing them to the attention of the group. Please be someone who feels the same way. We are looking for a candidate who is eager to learn, but also eager to solve.

4. An interest in/love of buildings and architecture, cities, maps, brochures, presentation design and data visualization. 

5. A portfolio with print pieces. We are NOT looking for a web designer or developer. It is important we follow best print practices.

6. A basic understanding of branding and implementing a brand across maps, icons, infographics, charts, etc.

We don’t care if you’re self-taught or have 5 degrees. We just need to you to be a quick thinker who knows the hell out of current versions of InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
