General Description of Position:  

The Studio School Administrator is responsible for the management and the direction of the Palos Verdes Art Center’s school program. Primary duties include curriculum development, managing the registration software, recruiting and supervising instructors, developing community partnerships, facilitating online instruction and managing the program’s annual budget. The Studio School Administrator reports to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities 

  • Develop with Executive Director the school program’s annual budget; manage and balance the budget   
  • Expand current curriculum to increase class offerings and quality of educational experience (e.g. 
  • introduce new subjects and instructors) 
  • Manage transition to online teaching; develop suitable curriculum with instructors and coordinate the necessary technical logistics; facilitate Zoom online class instruction 
  • Develop unique curriculum for summer art camp and recruit volunteer counselors 
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with other schools, organizations and community groups to create new teaching and volunteer opportunities  
  • Recruit and supervise instructors; monitor classroom performance and student satisfaction  
  • Develop quarterly schedule of classes and workshops; handle all related data input  
  • Counsel students, resolve conflicts and other issues as needed 
  • Create content and coordinate publication of quarterly class catalogue with graphic designer and PVAC Communications Director  
  • Manage school registration system and handle related inquiries   
  • Coordinate with Curator annual faculty exhibition 
  • Attend Art Center gallery opening and other events (some evenings)  
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned by the Board of Directors 

Requirements: 

  • Degree in Art or Education     
  • Previous administrative or teaching experience in school or art center a plus  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong, positive attitude 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills 
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task 
  • Proficiency with various software programs (Windows; Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Outlook; Zoom) 
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Acrobat), HTML and website updates a plus 
  • Participation at exhibition openings (requires working some evenings)
