Position Description

The Artistic Director is responsible for developing and steering the overall content and creative identity of GoggleWorks, in line with our artistic vision and philosophy. The Artistic Director provides direction and support to the programs department, studio leaders, and other creative departments to insure GoggleWorks is offering an eclectic, professional and inspiring experience for its students and visitors.

The Artistic Director works closely with the Executive Director, Chief Operating Officer, and Marketing Department to guide GoggleWorks’ strategic development in an effort to maximize community impact, long term financial sustainability, artistic relevance, and reputation. The Artistic Director will also work to ensure that all of GoggleWorks’ studios facilities and programs are held to the highest standards of operation and excellence.

 

The Artistic Director will drive GoggleWorks’ overall student experience through the development and implementation of a robust schedule of public events, programs, and exhibitions in line with artistic vision and seasonal themes. Overseeing the program department, the Artistic Director will drive creative program development and studio experiences in line with GoggleWorks mission and core values.

Key Responsibilities:

 

Management

  • Lead program department in development of long-term plans and resources which meet educational, service and programmatic goals of GoggleWorks
  • Oversee studio rental program and drive rental income growth
  • Oversee the scheduling and planning process of course terms
  • Lead studio managers and technicians in execution of facility standards
  • Collaborate with Exhibitions Coordinator to produce complementary exhibitions and program offerings
  • Oversee the development of program marketing collateral

 

Special Programs

  • Oversee the work exchange program in its development, recruitment and resources
  • Oversee the Student Ambassador Fellowship Program including recruitment, experience development and exhibition fulfilment
  • Lead the philosophy, structure, and policy development of the Artist-In-Residency Program

 

Artist Recruitment

  • The Artistic Director will lead the recruitment of artist instructors able to offer a wide range of courses that will diversify GoggleWorks offerings
  • Recruit Student Ambassador Fellowship mentors
  • Collaborate with staff on strategies related to visiting artists and retail consigners  
  • Recruitment of high level, relevant instructors to offer master level workshops year around

 

Project Management & Organization Advancement

  • Working with Marketing Department, COO, and Executive Director, plan and manage various special projects and partnerships throughout the year; including but not limited to campus and wayfinding improvements, developing and launching new programs, and special events
  • Continuously identify studio infrastructure and equipment needs in order to plan, execute and grow studio capabilities

 

Facilities

  • General studio oversight and studio manager supervision, including ceramics, hot glass, warm glass, metals, wood, printmaking / screen printing, photography, and materials lab
  • Set and enforce the highest standards of operation possible in all studios, including cleanliness, safety, policy and students experience
  • Develop and implement campus wide inventory procedures
  • Develop and grow material sale options for students and patrons

 

Creative and Artistic Direction

  • The Artistic Director will develop key themes and aesthetics of course offerings, program related marketing material, and public programs. The Artistic Director will work with the Marketing Department ensure brand and offering cohesion between programs, galleries, retail, and theatre departments
  • Develop catalog themes and concepts and related interactive experiences
  • Develop and oversee dynamic course content such as special topic courses and experiences
  • Develop and implement artistic offerings and experiences that adapt seasonally / environmentally
