Minnesota Street Project Art Services provides a comprehensive, concierge-based art collection management service to private collectors, galleries, and institutions. Adhering to the best art handling practices, we package, install, transport, inventory, and store artwork in conformance with museum standards, with 100% of our profits go to supporting and sustaining Bay Area arts and culture. Our 50,000 ft2 storage facility, located in San Francisco, CA, features state-of the art environmental-control and security systems, as well as an attractive viewing room and photography facility.

We are currently looking for a Registrar to join our team of arts professionals. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Exhibits a friendly and approachable demeanor with all Minnesota Street Project clients, staff, and vendors, acting as a positive ambassador for Art Services, as well as the overall Project; maintains excellent relationships with clientele, including collectors, galleries, institutions, consultants, and other arts professionals, ensuring industry-leading client satisfaction; ensures strong communication is facilitated and deadlines are continually met.
  • Assists Head Registrar with maintaining overall collection management quality control per museum standards.
  • Inventories and tracks all items in storage. Keeps client database records continually updated; directly and proactively suggests additional action to safeguard artworks in storage.
  • Assists with database and scanner maintenance, digitization protocols, and client archives.
  • Works closely with our warehouse team to anticipate incoming/outgoing shipments, generating proper documentation for artwork pulls, releases, receipts; guarantees accurate piece counts for large shipments.
  • Generates non-time-sensitive work orders for our in-house team in the form of packing recommendations and condition reporting.
  • Manages Registration-based contributions to our monthly invoicing process for assigned clients; ensures accurate storage volumes and links artwork movement scans to associated jobs.
  • Digitally condition reports artworks per client’s request.
  • Staffs booths during art fairs, professional development opportunities, or other events, as needed.
  • Attends weekly department meetings, as well as occasional programming events at 1275 Minnesota Street.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Reports to the Head Registrar

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA in Museum Studies, or equivalent, required. MA preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a museum, gallery, or equivalent environment; must have a general understanding of different art mediums and proven collection management ability.
  • Ability to quickly identify and resolve problems, effectively prioritize, and manage time efficiently, ensuring projects stay on schedule; self-starter with an ability to shift between tasks and take direction.
  • Customer-service minded; past experience in a client facing role preferred.
  • Demonstrated concern for detail, accuracy and precise execution of work; excellent communication skills, both verbally and written.
  • Proficient with PC and Mac operating systems and software, including Adobe and Microsoft Suites; knowledgeable with the G Suite; database software experience required.
