Our interns write exhibition reviews that we publish online, they research artists for our soon-to-be launched online database, learn software essential to the field, work directly with our Director of Collections, Diana Thompson, and are part of a small, hands-on team.  

Responsibilities:

The majority of the intern’s time will be devoted to working on an extensive database project, which, when completed, will share the NAD’s collection online with a global audience. 

  • Learn and employ TMS, (The Museum System) a commonly used Collection Management Software for museums, to research artists and their works.
  • Learn how to use WordPress to create webpages to promote artists and architects.  
  • Conduct online research on artists and architects from the 19th century to today. Content includes: biographies, gallery affiliations, their social media, works of art, headshots and news articles.
  • Visit art exhibitions and write reviews.
  • Interview the National Academicians of the interns’ choice.
  • Continue online research of current and future shows of Academicians.
  • Assist with occasional administrative tasks such as mailings, scanning, and filing.

Qualifications:

  • Talented writer and editor with a strong interest in and a knowledge of Fine Art and Art History
  • Friendly, social, positive and detail-oriented
  • A self-starter who is comfortable interacting with individuals at all levels
  • Resourceful and flexible
  • Some knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, social media platforms and HTML, helpful
  • Upperclassman or graduate student preferred

Compensation: This internship is unpaid. Interns should receive academic credit from their universities.
