The Board of Trustees for Berkshire Choral International is seeking qualified candidates for the position of President. Founded in 1982 and based in western Massachusetts, Berkshire Choral International (BCI) is a one-of-a-kind organization created by people with a passion for singing. BCI offers unique experiences to amateur singers who love to immerse themselves in a week-long intensive study of a major choral work. Singers engage with an eminent conductor and professional faculty in preparation for performing a concert with professional orchestra. Daily schedules include double rehearsals, sectionals, classes and workshops. A season consists of four to six individual weeks each summer in an inspiring, culturally-rich setting in the US or abroad.

BCI also offers a competitive Apprentice Program for professional track, post-graduate singers and conductors as well as scholarship opportunities for undergraduates with a strong music background.

The President provides leadership and direction for all programming, for day-to-day operations of the BCI office, and for strategic planning. The President manages a permanent staff of four, including Music Director. It is the President’s responsibility to develop a vision for BCI that enriches chorister involvement by offering the highest quality of repertoire, venues, conductors, soloists, curriculum and faculty. The President is responsible for planning, developing and overseeing implementation of the overall operational and development strategies in a way that meets organizational performance plans within approved budgets and timeframes and with a vision towards building and expanding enrollment capacity. This is a full-time position and reports directly to the Board of Trustees.

Requirements: Candidates should have bachelor or higher degree(s) in arts and/or business administration and must demonstrate a successful history of leading and managing a people-oriented organization and should be a strategic thinker who is receptive to new ideas and opportunities to sustain and enhance the organization. A background and passion for music and the arts is desirable.

The position requires travel to and negotiations with potential host venues, hotels, caterers, conductors and local orchestra leaders. Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills and enjoy interacting with a host of stakeholders, including choristers, faculty, apprentices, scholars, staff and audience members. The successful candidate should be willing to reside in Berkshire County, MA, or nearby environs and to work at our office in Sheffield, MA (through 2019) and thereafter at a new office location expected to be in a nearby community.

BCI offers a competitive salary, vacation, health benefits, and a 403(b)-matching defined benefit plan.

The successful candidate will be expected to begin in Summer or early Fall of 2018.

The deadline for priority consideration of applications is May 1, 2018.
