The Dilemma of Exile

Inspired by experiences rooted within me I began exploring the idea of identity and belonging. Moving from Poland to England at the age of 13 was extremely difficult as trying to maintain and develop my Polish self alongside the new English identity resulted in a continuous battle between the two voices. The words that I knew well in my mother tongue suddenly shifted and adopted a meaning that was no longer familiar. The physical departure from homeland provoked a metaphorical migration from self. Growing up in between two such contrary worlds evoked an inner conflict of having two identities and raised the dilemma of cultural displacement and exile from motherland.
