Overview

Evolution: Classical is an innovative artist development program for instrumentalists and vocalists who are in the early stages of career development and are interested in exploring and expanding the traditions and conventions that define their artistic practice. Led by the Gryphon Trio, Evolution: Classical brings participants together with international performing artists, thought leaders and creative innovators to collectively explore the challenges and choices that emerging, entrepreneurial artists encounter as they make the decisions that determine their way forward. 

Opera in the 21st Century 2022 | In-Person

Overview
Opera in the 21st Century is a performance-based, collaborative training experience for emerging opera professionals that truly challenges the conventions of opera performance, production, and design. 

This residency's focus is to develop young opera professionals with the skills and experience to take them to the next level of their careers and beyond. The multi-disciplinary program offers a unique opportunity to work with diverse artists, and is open to singers, instrumentalists, conductors, and stage directors.

Indigenous Playwrights Nest

Overview

The Indigenous Playwrights Nest is a two week residency that offers Indigenous playwrights an inspiring environmental workspace to write their plays surrounded by nature in the Leighton Artists Studios. The residency is designed to offer support and space for new works in various stages of dramaturgical development. This residency includes revisiting textual work on plays that have had some performance life but are still in process of finalizing, as well as open to new works in development.

Banff Artist in Residence - Spring 2022

Overview

The Banff Artist in Residence program is designed for visual artists to focus on their practice in a supportive learning environment, where artists are  encouraged to self-direct their research and time, as well as cultivate new directions in their work. This residency provides a space for experimentation and risk-taking under the support of shared production facilities and knowledgeable staff who are available to provide technical assistance, as well as individual studio visits with guest faculty and dialogue amongst peers.

Indigenous Haute Couture Fashion Residency - Design & Pattern Development

Overview

This three-week Indigenous Haute Couture Fashion Residency will offer Indigenous textile-based artists with traditional and contemporary practices the opportunity to develop their design and pattern development skills, traditional, and digital embellishments all at haute couture level.

Indigenous fashion makers and designers will explore experimental elements or accomplish finished productions of their work with an haute couture aesthetic to the best of their capacity in a fully supported environment.

Literary Journalism 2022 | In-Person

Overview

This two-week residency encourages the exploration of new ideas in journalism and experimentation in writing. Designed to challenge and stimulate, the program aims to inspire creative pieces of nonfiction and to assist the writers in their completion. A preeminent space for long-form journalism, this residency emphasizes the strengths of thorough and articulate reporting, distinctive storytelling, and literary devices. Work created in this program has been published in many outlets including The Globe and Mail, The Walrus, and The Atlantic, and pieces have gone on to win National Magazine and National Newspaper Awards.
