Enterprise Works - Social Enterprise Training for Artists

Enterprise Works is a unique and practical business programme with a focus on Social Enterprise aimed at socially engaged artists and creatives who are looking to make social impact within their practice.

Led by Creativity Works and the University of Bath, it explores an array of ideas and tools that will enable you to be sustainable and effective as an artist, and to thrive as a social entrepreneur.

We believe that having a thorough grasp of business, finance, entrepreneurship, marketing and strategy can futureproof your career and be the springboard for increasing your income, making more social impact, and establishing a network of employment opportunities.

THERMAE BATH SPA COMMISSION

Thermae Bath Spa is offering a £7,500 commission to produce 9 works which will be installed in the busy restaurant in June 2019. Thermae welcomes approximately 285,000 visitors through the building per year. Thermae are looking for work that is inspired by the natural thermal waters and promotes holistic wellbeing. The waters are a key reason for Bath being designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and being credited as one of the Great Spas of Europe.  In the heart of the World Heritage Site, Thermae Bath Spa is a remarkable combination of ‘old and new’ where historic spa buildings blend with the contemporary design of the New Royal Bath.

'Creature', a collaborative songbook

Mob-Handed Press is a series of collaborative songbooks created by selected musicians around a central theme. Artists contribute one song each, which are then anthologised into a zine. This publication is launched with a night of performance and storytelling.

It is a communication between artist and audience, and an exploration of how people visualise the music that they write, perform, and consume.

Issue Three of Mob-Handed Press will be entitled, 'Creature':

Creatures of habit,
Uncontrollable beasts,
The ones within…
And the ones without.

Open Call: Fantastic and Strange

Many humans are curious. Curious about things that are deemed weird or different. Things that are exquisite yet grotesque. Things that are delicate yet sinister. Things we don’t always understand.

Fantastic and Strange will explore the idea of the weird and wonderful, the eccentric and sensational. Art, ideas or items that are bizarre, eerie, mysterious, unconventional, supernatural or unexpected.

Looking for artists of any discipline whose work falters between the odd and the beautiful, extravagant yet awkward. Works of art that both draw you in yet repel you or contradict in message, media or ideas. Fantastic and Strange will combine these different approaches and concepts of different artists to produce it’s own wondrous museum of curiosities.

Dull

There is no such thing as an uninteresting subject; the only thing that can exist is an uninterested person. Gilbert Keith Chesterton

Many of the most engaging works of art are born of an artist’s fascination with a subject, concept or material that others might overlook.

For this exhibition, we are interested in working with artists in all disciplines who are drawn to what other people might initially deem to be dull – artists who notice and perceive things in ordinary and everyday places, things, materials or situations that other people don’t, for example.

21st Century Neanderthal

21st century Neanderthal is a research into today’s online dating world seen through artists’ eyes, mixed with every day’s righteousness and immorality.

The impersonality of online dating caused us to question the behaviour of current society. We invite artists to step into this digital world where fantasy and reality blur, where the lines cross and the perfect version of the truth is never quite what it seems. Communication is contorted as the rules no longer apply.
