Sound Art & Music Residency in Brazil

Canil Residency was born out of Canil Recs studios, a community-focused music studio based in Juiz de Fora, Brazil. Founded by Everton Surerus in 2018, the name Canil (meaning "kennel") is an homage to scappy DIY beginnings and the studio's mascot, local dog resident Montila. The musician and professional sound engineer was recently joined by Leo Fazio of São Paulo (musician, music producer) and Starly Lou Riggs of Portland, Oregon (musician, photographer, visual artist) to form a new artist residency with a focus in helping sound artists from around the world craft a dream project, while forming ties with an interesting international community. A college city, Juiz de Fora sits in the colorful state of Minas Gerais, a bus ride away from Rio de Janeiro.
