Brno Artists in Residence is happy to announce an international Open Call for visual artists, curators or theoreticians of any nationality, gender or age for a two months residency stay between June – July 2023 hosted by The Brno House of Arts, in Brno, Czech Republic.

 

The residency is intended to provide a platform for focused work, research, study, activism, regeneration and free exploration of any kind. BAiR’s elementary philosophy is to create a space for free artistic expression without the pressure to produce a complete and significant presentation outcome within the time- and space-range of the residency. The wellbeing of our guests – be it artists, curators or theoreticians – is our top priority.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Brno Artists in Residence program regularly hosts artists-in-residence since 2016 and is a key constituent of the Brno House of Arts' conceptual framework. A top floor of the House of the Lords of Kunštát, which is one of the two headquarters of the institution, has been refurbished to provide facilities for accommodation and work for artists in three studios.

The Brno House of Arts international residency program has been launched with the objective to develop opportunities for an exchange of ideas and opinions between the Czech and international art scene. Visual artists in various disciplines, curators and contemporary art theoreticians are invited to take part in the residency. BAiR’s residency program operates in close interconnection with the G99 gallery to create a space for focused work and presentation of up-to-date approaches in contemporary art.

 

The Brno House of Arts is a contributory organisation funded by the Statutory City of Brno.

The artist´s residency is financially supported by the Czech Ministry of Culture.

CONDITIONS
The Brno House of Arts provides

– artistic stipendium: 40 000 CZK;

– accommodation and open studio space at House of the Lords of Kunštát in Brno, CZ;

– available technical equipment and workshops;

– production assistance and consultations by the employees of BAiR

 

Artists obligate

– to stay in Brno at least 75% of time;

– take part in the Open Studios event;

– to elaborate a final report from the course of the residency

RESIDENCE PROGRAMS FOR INDEPENDENT CREATORS

/ PERFORMING ARTS /

Residential programs for independent artists are one of the support programs that the CO.LABS - Zone of Independent Art offers to professional artists in the field of performing arts. They are an integral part of dramaturgy focused on new drama (New Theatre), physical theatre and dance and frontier theatrical forms. Residential programs for individuals and groups – local and foreign. CO.LABS considers the provision of concentrated time and space for creation without pressure on the result to be absolutely crucial. The creative platform creates a full-fledged space adapted to the needs of the entire creative / staging team. The creative process takes place in one of the spaces of the CO.LABS – Rehearsal room, Workshop hall, Theater hall or Park – open air space. The center of events is a Cowork area of the self-service café suitable for everyday work or network. An integral part of residential programs is the possibility of accommodation directly in the building – we focus on the most intense and creative stay. We will provide comprehensive facilities and infrastructure – we will give you our space, time and energy.

In the past, residencies in the CO.LABS were attended by UFFTENŽIVOT, Koťátko zkázy, Alica Minar, Viktor Černický, Sociálně kulturní problém, Tereza Sikorová, Katarzyna Kamecká, Nhung Company.

Part of the residential programs is the possibility of future cooperation in the form of co-productions, permanent residency groups, etc.

DESCRIPTION OF THE RESIDENCE:
The residences take place in the building of the CO.LABS – Zone of Independent Art in the center of Brno. The artists have a choice of four spaces – Rehearsal room, Workshop hall, Theatre hall (for the presentation or confrontation of the process with the public; can be used variably) and Park. Artists have a shared Cowork area of a self-service café, which also serves as a kitchen for preparing snacks, brunches... Accommodation (depending on the current available capacity of the CO.LABS, the recommended number of guests – 2) is located in the building. WIFI connection is available throughout the building.

 

 

PROFESSIONAL RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM

Residential program for established and beginning independent professional artists working in the field of performing arts. I tis designed for entire creative groups or individuals, Czech and foreign. Residency programs are primarily used to create projects / productions or research – according to the needs and preferences of creators.

Duration of the residence:
2–4 weeks

Period of the residence:
June – August /by individual agreement/

Costs of the organization CO.LABS:
- space
- technics
- production
- PR and marketing
- accommodation (according to the current possibilities of the organization)

Costs of the creators:
- travel expenses
- diet

Residence conditions:
The condition of the residence is an activity for the benefit of the local creative community of the CO.LABS at the end of the residency – presentation of the residents’s work in the form of Work in Progress, workshop, debate, discussion or other activity ( by arrangement with organization).

Number of persons of one residence:
without limits

Brno Artists in Residence is happy to announce an Open Call for visual artists, curators or theoreticians of any nationality for one month residency stay in The Brno House of Arts, Czech Republic.

We search for three artists, curators or theoreticians for one-month residency in March 2020, 
June 2020 and July 2020.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT BRNO ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE

The Brno Artists in Residence is the project of The Brno House of Art. Since 2016 the residency program has become one of the key constituents of the Brno House of Arts concept. The third floor of the House of the Lords of Kunštát, refurbished so that to accommodate the residency program, offers facilities for the stay and work of artists in three studios.

The Brno House of Arts international residency program has been launched with the objective to develop opportunities for an exchange of ideas and opinions between the Czech and international arts scenes. Visual artists in various disciplines, curators and theoreticians in the field of contemporary art are invited to take part in the residencies. Residency program has closer interconnection with the Gallery G99 as a space for presentations of selected residents’ works in form of exhibitions.

The Brno House of Arts provides:

  • artistic stipendium: 10 000 CZK in gross + per diem 300 CZK;
  • accommodation and studio at House of the Lords of Kunštát, Dominikánská 9, 602 00 Brno, Czech Republic;
  • available technical equipment and workshops.

Artists obligate:

  • to stay in Brno at least 75% of time;
  • participate on program organize by The Brno House of Arts for its residents;
  • communication languages are English and Czech.
  • The artist undertakes to elaborate a final report with photographic documentation from the course of the residency.
