OPEN CALL FOR CURATOR-IN-RESIDENCE 2019 - 2020

KUNSTRAUM is excited to announce our Curator-in-Residence (CIR) program.

The CIR will direct KUNSTRAUM’s gallery program for 12 months and will have the opportunity to develop and present their vision and to expand and spotlight their curatorial practice in the New York art world. The goal of the CIR program is to facilitate exhibitions and events to engage our community while also encouraging invited curators, artists, and other guests to collaborate, think critically, and take risks in their practices.

Responsibilities of the CIR:

- Curating one independent exhibition, as well as the member summer show

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR MARCH/APRIL 2019 RESIDENCY PROGRAM

We invite artists, photographers, musicians, filmmakers, writers, curators, and researchers to apply for 2019 DE-CONSTRUKT residency opportunities for March/April We provide a space to develop new ideas, create temporal work and encouragement to form new networks.

All participants must either make a public event in Red Hook or work with the neighborhood directly. We will work with each resident to organize their event and will publicize it in our newsletter and social media.

Artists are required to stay at least 2 weeks. Please note two-week residencies make it difficult to organize events due to the short time frame if you would like to make an event at our studio we suggest staying for (1) month.

Submission Guidelines:

Pieces may be no bigger than 12" on longest side - we accept 2D and 3D framed and unframed works of all media. If a work is framed, the frame can be a maximum of 2" larger than the piece itself, making the max dimension 14"

You may submit up to 3 works for consideration

Images must be in .JPG or .JPEG format, 1000 pixels on longest side, titled: LastnameFirstname_Title.jpg

Media can be submitted in .MOV, .MPG4, or .GIF format, titled: Lastname_Firstname_Title.mpg4

Call for Submissions: Crossings Exhibition

This show addresses the changing essence of identity through the process of immigration. Our definition of immigration is not limited to the crossing of geographical divisions. We define it as the significant movement of a person through borders whether they be physical, emotional, social, ideological, and/or conceptual in either literal and/or figurative modes. We find it important to broaden the definition of immigration for this exhibition and include actions that encompass more than the literal meaning of the word to embody the full spectrum of the process of moving from one place/thought/emotion/identity/etc to another. We encourage artists to interpret this definition in their own creative manner.
