International Portrait FIlm Festival Open Call 2021

Country:

Eligibility:

IPFF is on the path towards its second edition in 2021. Once again, we will celebrate short portrait cinema, independent filmmaking and art which explores, educates and transforms.

A portrait is an image heavy with meaning. Multilayered and multifaceted, it has a visual, psychological, material, emotional and spiritual dimension.

Unravelled in art, the painted, the literary, the photographic portrait is often perceived by the human mind as a still frozen in time. But, in fact, it has already undergone a transformation. From its true origin, through the consciousness that revives the brush, the quill and the lens, to the semblance that begins its life on the canvas and on the page. Imitation and repetition, but with endless potential for future metamorphoses.

The film portrait, too, is captured in time. It is not motionless - literally and metaphorically. The cinematographic portrait is a soul in the form of light encountering the canvas of the white screen. The portrait is a trace. And a sign. A secret. A reverie.

FOCUS

The portrait is the focus of the films that will be screened at IPFF. We are looking for portrait films that have already been completed, as well as such that will be created with the concrete idea of 'portrait'. Of a person. A group of people. An object. Something invisible, but substantial. Of the self. Or of something else.

AIM

IPFF aspires to bring together artists and viewers who sincerely long for enrichment with art, intellectual discussion and an experience of cinema through a new prism - that of the portrait film.

CHARACTER

IPFF is a hybrid event and platform. A symbiosis of intriguing live encounters and memorable virtual experiences. The interweaving of portrait cinema from around the world and debates, lectures and masterclasses.

SPIRIT

IPFF is for those profoundly needing art and excitement. And for the ones in search of their catharsis. For the unafraid to stare at the screen even when it is empty. For those hungry for experimental viewpoints. For those forever in love with cinema, caught in its loop.

***

IPFF welcomes a wide spectre of films and filmmakers: students, professionals, from low budget to big-scale productions, alternative and independent films by individuals and by collectives or institutions.

Moving Body Festival #6 Critical Moves! OPEN CALL 2021

Country:

City:

Eligibility:

Moving Body festival platform is dedicated to connecting artists, mediums and audiences through art that shares a strong choreographic sensibility.

The COVID-19 pandemic affects all spheres of both our personal and professional lives, presenting the performing arts with enormous challenges and an urgent need to re-organize their activities, to rethink their role and place in society. Therefore, in 2021, through the instrument of choreography and the lens of the festival platform Moving Body, we want to find those new readings of the current environmental and socio-political challenges of our time, which will become a starting point for our discussions during the main program of the edition in November 2021.

We all seem to be striving at this moment (striving we believe is the need for communication and direction) to join a large-scale collective moving body, а material as well as an abstract one, but always a body in motion, which through our virtual screens seems pixelated, incomplete, in search of experiencing its identity – the only thing that makes it feel whole.

Questioning the existing fixed notions in our language, the possible directions for the future, and the reality where the subjective and the objective meet, moves us to take and experiment in different directions in the landscape of the collective mind, examining possibilities for our future as a species, as human beings, standing on the result of History. Every standing body develops over time a resisting mechanism against gravity, and standing itself, where the feet and the surface meet, is an act of pushing the ground.

The critical moves, which we perceive as a rich territory in which we stand and push the ground, provoke us to ask again the questions which work as a driving force for the Moving Body platform: How do we move? What moves us? In which direction are we moving? How do we move from an individual toward a collective body shaping the future history? How do we move in a time of Catastrophe?

The festival invites scholars, artists and other multidisciplinary participants to submit works of WRITING, VISUAL ART, SOUND AND NEW MEDIA… as every media is perceived as a critical body which explores new modes of coexisting between all forms of life and art. We would like to provide an orientation with which to discuss the current ecological and sociopolitical challenges of our time, through the lens of the Moving Body platform.

Prizes Details:

Every selected project will receive a Moving Body Digital diploma and the best works from each category will be awarded the financial support of €150.

We understand this is more of a symbolic sum for your achievement, rather than a significant one, but we want to show our appreciation and support as an organisation, despite the fact that this year our funds were cut. We do not wish for this obstacle to get in the way of our passionate aim to coordinate the sixth edition of the initiative in which we believe in. In this line of thought, all participation fees will be invested in the live, digital and possibly printed realisation of Moving Body Festival 2021.

We thank you for the understanding and support from your side, and we wish you to always keep the motivated inner creative fire burning!

INTERCULTRURAL | Radical Imagination for Lively Villages

Share

Category:

Ideas Factory Association (Sofia, Bulgaria) is pleased to announce an open call to artists to participate in a 1-month artistic residency, which will be held in the villages of Deleina and Sinagovtsi (Vidin district) in Northwestern Bulgaria. The residency is part of the European Cultural Foundation’s endorsed cultural and social-entrepreneurial initiatives across Europe in the Democracy Needs Imagination program.

The problems that the residency will look for a solution to

The two villages are located in an area of social, cultural and geographical periphery affected by contemporary political and economic processes. Poverty, depopulation, lack of quality access to culture and a broken link between generations are all part of the consequences of these processes. Therefore, the villages in the area need new approaches that incorporate creative imagination and the means of art as drivers for a beneficial change.

European democracy suffers from a syndrome of radicalized discontent resulting from the breakdown of healthy community ties and trust. We can respond to this by creating an occasion for a meeting between cities and villages, across generations, cultures and life experiences, which will spread messages across Europe of solidarity, empathy and understanding beyond the black and white perspective.

Residencies will provoke and create occasion for a new type of connection – to people and the place itself, but also vice versa – to the broader perspectives and networks that residents bring to these places. The topics and questions that guest artists will work on are: what can be radical artistic actions to defend a position, what can the art of overcoming the inequalities and injustices we see in contemporary society have to offer.

How?

The residency will last for 1 month and will take place from 1 -30 June 2020. It will seek creative answers to the aforementioned problems of our time, paving the way from the periphery to the center and back.

10 artists, visionaries and activists from Bulgaria and other European countries will be accommodated in the homes of local people in the villages of Sinagovtsi and Deleyna. They will communicate with the local people, listen to their needs and stories and use the local community centers for their creative activities. At the end of the residency, during a community event, they will present their artistic projects that in participatory way response to the problems. The final exhibition presenting the artistic responses will be shown first in the villages, then in the regional town of Vidin and finally in Sofia.

Participants will be selected by an open call and interview. Their projects will be implemented, presented, published, exhibited and commented on in the next five months after the end of the residence.

Prizes Details:

Residents will be provided free of charge:

– accommodation and food during their stay at the home of local people;

– travel costs (up to 150 euro for EU countries and up to 55 euro for Bulgaria and Balkan countries)

– work space at local community centers.

They will have a small production budget for materials (up to 150 BGN) as use of local resources is strongly encouraged. Any kind of assistance from the curator and project team will be provided to the artists during the residency period.

The selected residents shall pay a participation fee of 100 euro for the whole period of the residency.

Ideas Factory can offer two scholarships covering the participation fee for Balkan artists, who have strong will to participate but limited resources to do that. They will be selected based on their motivation to take part in the residency programme.
