Digital Media Studio Practicum | Visual Arts

Studio Practicum programs provide an opportunity for participants to expand and enhance their technical skills in mediums supported by Banff Centre’s Visual Arts production facilities. 

This program offers practical experience in the areas of audio, animation, interactive media, computational media, digital fabrication, video production, and post-production for use in artistic practice.

Ceramics Studio Practicum

Overview

Studio Practicum programs provide an opportunity for participants to expand and enhance their technical skills in mediums supported by Banff Centre’s Visual Arts production facilities. 

In this program, participants will develop ceramics techniques through practical experience with kiln firing (electric, gas, soda, raku, and wood), and ceramics studio operation.

Participants will receive mentorship and feedback from the Ceramics Facilitator, and assist in the delivery of Visual Arts residency programs and events. Participants will also learn maintenance and safe operation of equipment, and provide assistance to the Ceramics Facilitator in support of artists in residence utilizing the ceramics facilities.

Late Fall Writers Retreat 2019 | Literary Arts

Overview

The Late Fall Writers Retreat is a self-directed program that offers time and space for writers to retreat, reconnect, and re-energize their writing practice. In addition to a single room, which doubles as your private studio, you will be surrounded by acommunity of artistic peers. You will have the opportunity to attend inspiring talks and performances and meet with guest faculty to consult on your work.

Banff International Curatorial Institute Symposium: Living Agreement | Visual Arts

Program Overview

The Living Agreement symposium is an invitation to learn from artists, curators, and creative practitioners who reflexively engage relationships between institutions, artists, and publics as a form of artistic practice. 

Drawing on the work of artist Carmen Papalia and his proposal to consider accessibility as a temporary and relational practice, this three-day symposium asks how the triangulated relationships between artists, audiences, and institutions might be re-thought as a ‘living agreement.'

In this cross-disciplinary conversation, artists, curators, art historians, writers, and theorists will reflect on a range of themes.

Technical Direction Performing Arts Practicum

Overview

Under the guidance of Technical Direction staff and/or faculty, you will take part in coordinating activities within Banff Centre’s Performing Arts facilities. Responsibilities may include review of riders and other technical drawings and documents, assisting with the creation of schedules, and updating and maintaining drawings and data sets related to Performing Arts operations. 

This program emphasizes a balance between individual learning and development and the Performing Arts department’s administrative needs. You can expect project-based theoretical learning to supplement experience gained by participating in administration of the department.

Audio Post Production Practicum

Overview

The Audio Post Production Engineer Practicum is intended as a continuing education experience for emerging audio post production engineers with mature artistic insight and advanced practical skills, including significant professional experience or a high level of professional training. 

Practicums have the opportunity to learn about equipment and software, and develop mixing and editing techniques while working on a wide variety of post production  projects.

What does the program offer?

Engineers from around the world participate in this program to benefit from mentorship by staff engineers and technologists, and classes with audio staff and internationally-renowned guest faculty.
