OPEN CALL | Abstract Art with New Media

Eligibility:

Independent & Image Art Space (Chongqing, China) presents an online exhibition open call with the theme of “Abstract Art with New Media”.

ABOUT EXHIBITION THEME
Abstract Art with New Media
Adolph Gottlieb, an American abstract expressionist painter, sculptor, and printmaker, said, “The role of the artist, of course, has always been that of image-maker. Different times require different images. ... To my mind certain so-called abstraction is not abstraction at all. On the contrary, it is the realism of our time.”
We invite artists worldwide to share their ideas about abstract art of our time. They may be painting, or artwork created with new media. They may be monumental in scale, may be intense, spontaneous expression, may be a meditative space for ruminating the fundamental questions of human existence. The abstraction has many possibilities.

EXHIBITION OPEN CALL | FLUID TIME

Country:

City:

Eligibility:

Independent & Image Art Space (Chongqing, China) presents an online exhibition open call with the theme of “FLUID TIME”.

ABOUT EXHIBITION THEME: FLUID TIME
Armen Avanessian, an Austrian philosopher, says that “The basic thesis of the post-contemporary is that time is changing. We are not just living in a new time or accelerated time, but time itself—the direction of time—has changed. We no longer have a linear time, in the sense of the past being followed by the present and then the future. It’s rather the other way around: the future happens before the present, time arrives from the future.”
In this new era, time is fluid, and there is no obvious progression from a before, to a during and an after in historical terms. The fluidity of time indicates the blurring of boundaries, escaping categorizations, and not being concretely defined. In such a time how does an artist imagine the future? How to view histories? How to create unexpected narratives and connections to tell untold stories? How to even use time as an artistic medium to interpret the life we experience?

Open Call | Images of Women

Artistic field:

Country:

City:

Eligibility:

Independent & Image Art Space (Chongqing, China) presents an online exhibition open call with the theme of “IMAGES OF WOMEN”.

ABOUT EXHIBITION THEME

IMAGES OF WOMEN

In 1971, the American art historian Linda Nochlin published an article Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists, which was regarded as a pioneering work in feminist art history and art theory, and made a great influence. Now, about 50 years later, when we ask this question again, what answers pop into people’s minds?

Today’s society discusses women’s social identities, not only about equality and empowerment, but also about the potential changes that women’s creativity can bring to the world. In this exhibition, we hope to listen to the voices of women and to know their views on themselves, society, and the world.

At the same time, this is not an exhibition only for female artists. We embrace diversity in terms of gender, race, ethnicity, belief, age, etc. We hope to see the images of women made by different groups of people, and to understand how they view women and the roles women play in our world.

As Nochlin said in the article: “Rather, using as a vantage point their situation as underdogs in the realm of grandeur, and outsiders in that of ideology, women can reveal institutional and intellectual weaknesses in general, and, at the same time that they destroy false consciousness, take part in the creation of institutions in which clear thought—and true greatness—are challenges open to anyone, man or woman, courageous enough to take the necessary risk, the leap into the unknown.”
