3 Month Residency Opportunity

Announcing artist residencies designed for the reopening of Colombia; for visual artists, musicians, writers, architects, clay artists, performers, and other makers.

We’re not quite out of the woods on the COVID epidemic, but international travel has been reopening all around the world. Back in March ‘20, we went into lockdown with 13 artists, and learned a lot in the process. Since then, we’ve hosted another dozen or so artists with extra precautions to keep everyone safe, yet maximize the artist’s experience. We believe that a key part of the AIR experience is the commensality – those wonderful conversations we have while sharing a glass of wine and a good meal, along with the freedom to focus on your work.

Residencies In The Time Of COVID

Announcing an artist residency designed for these times of Covid-19 for visual artists, musicians, writers, architects, clay artists, performers, and other makers.

We’ve been brainstorming how to re-open the AIR program at ArteSumapaz. Back in March ‘20, we went into lockdown with 13 artists, and learned a lot in the process. We believe that a key part of the AIR experience is the commensality – those wonderful conversations we have while sharing a glass of wine and a good meal. Thus, the idea of these new restrictions are daunting; yet needed for going forward in the near future.

So, how will these new residencies be different from other types of residencies?

Residencies with Families Post COVID-19

ArteSumapaz was founded on a former coffee plantation in a region in the Andean mountains outside of Bogota, where over a century ago, Frederick Church stopped to paint and draw. While much of the world still suffers from the impression that Colombia is a wild and dangerous part of the world, the country emerged over a decade ago from half a century of internal strife, and is frequently cited as one of the top destinations for travelers in 2020.
Residents are provided with private accommodations, and cooked meals throughout the day. Artists share a communal table, while working in spacious communal studios. The 268-acre property features portions of the antique camino real, waterfalls, spectacular vistas, and bountiful flora and fauna.

Residency Opportunity for Painters - Post COVID-19

Inspired by the legacy of such great residencies as Yaddo and Macdowell, we’ve designed our Artist-in-Residency program to be one in which visual artists, writers, musicians, and other makers, have the opportunity to experience profound growth. We believe there are three major aspects that can help contribute to break-through: inspiring working space; being surround by awesome nature; and commensality with like-minded souls.
