Fresh Hell

The theme for our fourth issue, Fresh Hellcomes from a famous quotation attributed to wisecracking American satirist Dorothy Parker:

"[Parker’s] way of looking at life was incurably pessimistic. Confronted by the unknown, she immediately prepared for the worst. Ordinary occurrences—the doorbell or a ringing telephone—made her wonder 'What fresh hell is this?'"

Arboreal Literary Magazine | Issue No. 03: Illusion

We’re excited to announce the theme for Issue No. 03 is ILLUSION.

How you to interpret this theme is entirely up to you. We simply invite you to venture into the realms of imagination and unravel the illusions that shroud (or illuminate?) reality.

Some Potential Thematic Angles for Inspiration

  • Delve into the illusory nature of human desires, the masks we wear, or the narratives we construct to make sense of the world.
  • Analyze the illusions perpetuated by society, politics, culture, and economics.
  • Explore the ephemeral nature of reality, peering into the shadows where illusion and truth make strange bedfellows.

BIG INK Visits Whiteaker Printmakers

This Spring BIG INK is hosting a large-scale woodblock printing event at Whiteaker Printmakers.  Artists interested in carving a woodblock of at least 24 by 36 inches are invited to apply to print with us.  No prior experience is required and emerging, mid-career, and established visual artists are encouraged to apply.  Upon acceptance, artists have two months to carve their design.  We then meet at Whiteaker in Eugene, OR and help each other print as a group.
