Theme: Lore: Myth, Magic and Mystery

 

No fee to apply.

 

Artists from anywhere working in any medium are cordially invited to submit artwork that addresses the aforementioned theme. Work can explore both cultural and personal lore or a combination of the two.      

 

Whereas artists from anywhere are invited to apply, work must arrive for installation by Mid-October.

All media and styles, including traditional, new media and installation, representational and abstract, are acceptable. 3 ArtWorks Maximum. Each image should be around 72 dpi.

 

**(For sculptures, new media and installations, you are welcome to include another perspective image or include a link to video documentation.)

ABOUT: 115 is a non-profit Contemporary Art Gallery, a subsidiary of the Y Arts Center, located in a newly renovated historic building in downtown Frederick, Maryland. Frederick, Maryland is located less than one hour from Washington, D.C, and Baltimore and boasts a walkable and thriving downtown area with a variety of unique specialty shops, restaurants, galleries, museums, and theaters.

Exhibition Dates: Saturday, October 29th, 2022 - Sunday, January 8th, 2023.  

 

Opening Reception: Sunday, October 30th, 2022 7 pm to 9 pm                           

 

Online Artist Zoom Talk: Sunday, November 20th Noon to 1 pm                    

 

Eligibility: All International artists may apply.

21 years of age and over.                                                                                

 

Submission Deadline: October 8th or when 300 submissions have been reached     

                                                        

Artist Notification: October 10th                                                                              

 

In Person Art Delivery: October 21st  to ​ October 24th                                                                   

 

Postage of Art Delivery: All mailed artwork MUST include postage to and from the artist’s studio.  The artwork MUST arrive before October 25th at the latest.                  

 

Return of Artwork: 

 

ACCURATE RETURN POSTAGE MUST BE INCLUDED WITH YOUR ART WORK IF SHIPPED.

Juror: Rula Jones is currently the Exhibitions Curator at Gallery 115 at the Y.  She has over twenty years of experience in the Visual Arts in various roles. Her previous experience includes guest curating at several organizations in the Washington DC area, including the Griffin Art Center, BlackRock Center for the Arts, the Black and White Gallery and the Mclean Project for the Arts. She has also held faculty positions at various notable institutions including The Corcoran College of Art + Design, The Brooklyn Children’s Museum and Maryland Institute College of Art. She is also an internationally exhibiting multi-media artist whose work primarily explores identity within an increasingly globalized and culturally complex world. She recently received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to write a first person memoir that will feature digital works of art. To learn more please visit, rulaportfolio.com

 

Commission: 70% Artist, 30% Gallery

 

Catalog and Curator Essay: All artists will be included in an online catalog that will feature an essay by the curator on our website. PDF versions will be sent to participating artists for their files.

All display images will be credited with their creator's name and you will allow us to publish your works on social media channels and our website and to follow the submission and exhibition guidelines and dates. While all art will be handled and protected with the utmost care and consideration, Gallery 115, YMCA of Frederick is not responsible for any damage or loss that may occur during transport of art or while on display in our facilities.
