Queer Environmental Worlds 2

Future worlds. Alternate realities. Parallel universes. Far off planets. These are just some of the places we may discover in Queer Environmental Futures, which is the theme for this residency.

Queering environmental futures will bust down the divisions between utopia and dystopia. We already occupy liminal bodies, have activist histories, have lived with and through toxicity. What can queering the future bring to the current environmental crises? If we dismantle the colonialism, capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy and hetero and cis normativity that have brought us to this environmentally precipitous moment, what can we create in their place?

Site & Cycle

This residency is about  combining hands-on Super 8 and 16mm filmmaking instruction with geographical and historical workshops, curated screenings and public programming, Film for Artists – Site + Cycle is a residency program that endeavors filmmaking practices that engage with the materiality of filmmaking as it intersects with issues of land use and site specificity.

Site + Cycle project at Anima Casa Rural is an iteration of our on-going project, which teaches hand-processing and decay techniques on Super 8 film in conjunction with teachings about the landscape, history, and cultural memory of Jalisco.

Call for Proposals

We are currently seeking proposals from curators and cultural organizers to program a two-week residency at Anima Casa Rural. As well as leading the residency, curators will have a chance to present their programme and curatorial practice on a panel discussion at the Escuela de Artes de la Secretaría de Cultura de Jalisco (depending on school’s program and availability) in the city of Guadalajara.  Programmers will be responsible for selecting and cultivating artists for their programme, and are expected to assist ANIMA staff in promotion and marketing of their programmed residency.

RECYCLING OBJECTS

The context of this residency is the recollection of found objects that are no longer being used, based on those same objects, composition of the artwork will be made, as the main thematic focus is recycling. The creative process is not to know how many final pieces will be made, or the technique used to transform those found objects, shaping the final piece.

The recollection of materials in the area will be the first step, then the selection of particular structures and objects that catch your eye. Creative process will be supported and facilitated as a workshop by Xilote Ibarra. Workshops will be promote and reenforce the collective learning as creative process.

What the Stones Hide

This residency is intended for artist to look in the surroundings of Anima to find stones -as  an archeology to the memory- in which the found object (a stone) tells us a story, either because of the memories that could produce by the touch, creating contact to the specific region of the stone, or by a creating a story that resembles a memory. The project to develop during the residency is to rescue our own memory, those which might be almost gone. As well as our purpose is to rescue the collective memory of storytelling for a lasting learning to pass on to future generations.

Cost: $715 USD.
