The Place called Home

Artists are invited to submit work that explores the concept of HOME through many lenses.

Peace, security, safety, and opportunity are all words describing the place called HOME. In essence, HOME is a concept, a comforting idea that we create for emotional sustenance. Across the world people travel to and from places both near and far; often risking everything in search of a place to live without threats or fear. They search for the manifestation or fulfillment of this idea, often forced to do so; at other times voluntarily. Self-identity may be redefined by the blending of many cultures as new roots are established. And then there is the juxtaposition of so many others who take HOME for granted. This show aims to explore this theme through many lenses.

Studio Montclair's third annual Greetings from Montclair postcard fundraiser.

We are excited to announce Studio Montclair's third annual Greetings from Montclair postcard fundraiser, scheduled for December of 2019! Participate and contribute to the financial health of SMI by creating a postcard-sized (4x6”) piece of artwork for the show. It's fun to do, and your support means so much to us!

Call for proposals: artCONNECTS - Montclair Mural Project

artCONNECTS is a public art project sponsored by the Montclair Center BID, in partnership with Studio Montclair. The placemaking project is funded by a grant provided by the NJ Main Street program and the Montclair Center Business Improvement District. Four locations have been identified throughout Downtown Montclair for original painted murals. The locations include a key alleyway, and walls at connection points where art can surprise and delight. Murals are to be temporary, with a five year expected life.

Studio Montclair Call for Entries: Everyday Objects

Everyday Objects:
Every day we are surrounded by objects that we have relationships with – physical relationships, psychological relationships, sensory relationships. These objects carry a history and a set of meanings that we sometimes share collectively and other times are extremely personal to our individual experiences. Found-object artists investigate these relationships; exploring the inherent beauty in objects and how these objects can have meaning shared by the collective memory of our culture/society.

Studio Montclair's "Inspired By ... Quilts!"

For this exhibit, artists are asked to submit works of art that are inspired by the antique quilt collection at the Montclair History Center. We are defining inspiration broadly to include a shape, a color, a process, materials, or even a reaction to words that describe a quilt or the women who made them and their place in society. Please note: Existing artwork that fits this theme may be submitted for this call.

Pictures and descriptions of the quilts are available on Studio Montclair’s website, and a selection will be on display at the Crane House and Historic YWCA in Montclair during the months of April and May (Wednesday afternoons at 1 and by appointment).
