Category:

Country:

AADK Spain invites all artists and researchers who wish to work on the topics of body, territory and spatiality to participate in its Artist Residency Program.

For this call, priority (not exclusive) will be given to intervention proposals developed in the landscape, conceived from any creative discipline (sound, performance, visual arts, architecture, agriculture or any other approach that is linked to the theme). Such interventions may be carried out in the natural or semi-urban area of Blanca.

For those interested in working with the community of Blanca, please bear in mind that projects of less than two months will not be accepted. The ability of artists to establish respectful relationships with the inhabitants and to be willing to engage in trial-error processes will be fundamental for these proposals. Theoretical research projects of any scientific or humanistic discipline may be applied to this call, provided that they have the artistic practice as their object of study.

The Artist Residency Program is carried out in Centro Negra, the current headquarters of AADK Spain located in the town of Blanca, Murcia. This program is a space for reflection and artistic research that encourages linking research with the historical, cultural and geographical context of the region.

Duration: 1-6 months
Both individual and collective proposals are eligible.

----------

Our Artist Residency is an interdisciplinary and socially committed program that offers its attendants a space for analysis and production. It aims to facilitate research in rural environments, highlighting the value of local knowledge as a means to re-think how these locations can position themselves in an era of massive urbanization through a social, historical and geographical perspective.

Throughout their stay, participants create a temporary community that shares experiences and processes, fostering debate and a transversal perspective of their projects. AADK Spain provides tutelage and curatorial follow-up as well as assistance in production and management of projects and Open Studios night on the last Saturday of each month. Additionally, participants are encouraged to keep in touch with us after their residency ends, so that we can promote their work in forthcoming exhibitions curated by our platform as well as in papers, conferences and/or publications.

12/20/2020

Due to the effects caused by the COVID19 pandemic, the hosting of more than 40 international artists expected for our 2020 residency program at the Centro Negra has been affected.

Faced with this situation, we have decided to start a new initiative. Crossing – Space for transformation is intended for those who need a space to create, hold exhibitions or workshops, focus on analysis and/or promotion of their work, for those who wish to have a coworking office or the ones who want to take a temporary retreat in a space surrounded by nature and a lively artistic community.

We invite all independent creators, entrepreneurs, artists, writers & researchers, cultural agents, audiovisual producers, and people interested in art and nature to check the new possibilities of exchange, collaboration, access to spaces, and resources that our platform is offering.
Your participation will provide support and contribution to the continuity of our project.

Crossing will be active between September 2020 and March 2021. Those interested may choose any of the possibilities offered on our list. Housing can be booked for a period of minimum 2 weeks and maximum 2 months. This initiative is designed to bring together resources, spaces, and knowledge. It facilitates the meeting between people of different origins, backgrounds, and ideas with the common interest of being part of a temporary community based on caring, sharing experiences, and knowledge.

AADK Spain invites all artists and researchers who wish to work on the topics of body, territory and spatiality to participate in its Artistic Residency Program. For this call, projects that respond to  the landscape will be prioritised. The Programme is carried out in Centro Negra, current headquarters of AADK Spain, located in the town of Blanca, Murcia. It is conceived of as a space for reflection and creative research that encourages its participants to interweave their projects with the historical, cultural and geographical context of the region.

AADK advocates for the decentralisation of culture and access to contemporary art in non-urban areas. It addresses local issues as a means to understand global problems. Currently based in Centro Negra (Blanca, Murcia) AADK Spain holds several programmes among which its Artistic Residency Program is foremost. Deeply rooted in its context, this programme constitutes a framework for research and debate where knowledge exchange and creative collaboration are always encouraged. Throughout the year the platform also holds a wide variety of activities, workshops and events. Furthermore, AADK Spain creates networks with other cultural and artistic enterprises in order to facilitate mobility for the artists that it hosts and foster their work at a national and international level.

At Centro Negra you will find support at every level of your project from AADK. The conditions of the stay and the access to equipment and materials can be discussed individually either remotely or during your stay. AADK Spain invests 850€ (a 60%) per resident in the residency program, and the Municipality of Blanca supports with the accommodation. The artists need to cover:

AADK Spain understands residency programs as contextualized spaces, where location models the practices on, and modifies both its participants and the local communities. Thus, our Artistic Residences are an interdisciplinary and socially committed program that offers its attendants a space for analysis and production. It aims to facilitate research in rural environments, highlighting the value of local knowledge as a mean to re-think how these locations can position themselves in an era of massive urbanization through a social, historical and geographical perspective. Throughout their stay participants conform a temporary community that shares experiences and processes, fostering debate and a transversal perspective of their projects.

During the residency period AADK Spain provides tutelage and curatorial follow-up as well as assistance in production and management of projects and Open Studios night on the last Saturday of each month. Moreover, participants are encouraged to keep in touch with us after their residency ends, being our intention to promote their work in forthcoming exhibitions curated by our platform as well as in papers, conferences and / or publications.

We invite artists, designers, architects and practitioners of all related disciplines to come to Centro Negra to work at the intersection of art, geography and local communities.

The residence periods may be from one up to six months, being two months the minimum recommended for the full development of a project. The amount of participants varies every month, but reaches a maximum of six projects (including individual proposals or duos / collectives).

Our philosophy:

AADK Spain is an independent project run by artists that works through horizontal dynamics.

-It advocates for the decentralization of culture and the access to contemporary art in non-urban areas.

-It sets up a space for transdisciplinary research, with focus on knowledge

exchange and creative collaboration.

-It boosts the value of creative processes over the need for finished art pieces.

-It researches new artistic practices with the aim of expanding the borders of creative disciplines and exploring transversal pedagogies.

-It is an organic and absorptive platform, that can be transformed and resignified through all its participants.

-It promotes the work of the artists who have taken part in the project, understanding them as an active part of itself.
