Rotterdam Photo 2026: Echoes of Silence – War in the Artist’s Soul

GENERAL OPEN CALL: ROTTERDAM PHOTO 2026

ECHOES OF SILENCE – WAR IN THE ARTIST'S SOUL
DEADLINE: DECEMBER 1, 2025

What does war do to an artist when he or she is not an eyewitness, but becomes a bearer of the emotional legacy? What does the violence sound like in the minds of those who survive, flee, or hear only?

In “Echoes of Silence,” we explore how war, conflict and collective trauma reverberate in the work of photographers who choose not to use the lens as a reporting tool, but as a mirror of their inner struggles.

Open Call for Auditions

The MA programmes are specifically tailored and designed for performance practitioners, or professionals with extensive experience and sufficient knowledge of performance practice, theatre, choreography, live art, somatic or body practices, or who hold an equivalent degree with sufficient professional experience in the field. The programmes attracts candidates with interests in challenging their practice and therefore offers a vocational, rigorous, intensive residential teaching which facilitates the demands for learning and development for people working in the field. As a result, the programmes cater for those already working as independent and responsible artist researchers and wishing to advance further and more rigorously their career through research.

Masks and Mirrors: Carnival Rituals

Treehouse NDSM is thrilled to announce the Open Call for our next exhibition, which will take place during March/April 2025. The theme will be “Carnival”. Carnival evokes strong and mixed feelings. Whether you love it or hate it, its complex history and symbolism cannot be ignored. With its origins in ancient European rituals celebrating the coming season of Lent, all the way to its transformation into an iconic Brazilian summr celebration; Carnival is a time for indulgence, transformation, connection, and reflection which manifests in different cultures with their own unique traditions.
