We consider applications to work on anything, but are particularly interested in hearing from artists who are working on themes relating to:

  • Rural settings, small villages, Spain or Catalonia.

  • Ancient roman settlements – the residency is in walking distance of a dig site.

  • Agriculture, food sources and the ecological impact of farming.

Artist for Roman dig site

Annual archeological dig of Roman ruins in Catalonia seeks artist.

Puig Ciutat is a well established dig in Oristà, a small village in the Catalan Geological park. Every year, students from the university of Edinburgh are invited to spend two weeks digging at the site. Last year, signs of a human skeleton were discovered.

We invite one artist to come and be part of the dig project, to host a workshop for the students, and to take inspiration from the work being done and the beauty of the surrounding area.

The artist is offered access to the site as well as a large studio for the duration of the residency. There is an opportunity to show artworks at the annual presentation of findings on 2 August.
