Call for Art: Two-Dimensional Temporary Public Art Installation

Rochester Contemporary Art Center (RoCo) invites artists to propose three images for a temporary public art installation at our main facility. Through this call for art we aim to offer a simple submission process for incisive, surprising, and unique imagery that will enliven the East Avenue neighborhood. Of particular interest are projects that connect visitors to the location, community and/or history of the neighborhood, challenge visitors and passersby, and address important social and political issues. RoCo welcomes visual artists of all genres. RoCo also invites visual artists to collaborate with literary artists as we have previously shown in this location.

Pro-Creative

A woman possesses twice the procreative powers of a man: she is capable, as men are, of creating great works of art, and she is also capable of gestating and giving birth to a new human life. Feminists Choosing Life of New York (FCLNY), a non-profit, independent organization that empowers women and children and follows the Consistent Life Ethic, is seeking artwork in any medium that contradicts the current feminist narrative that a woman’s autonomy is her greatest strength and that pregnancy is a barrier rather than a boon to female creativity.

City Mark Capital Art Project

Name: City Mark Capital Art Project

Location: Rochester, New York

Summary: The City Mark Project is intended to give Rochester a new permanent physical Artwork that recognizes and celebrates the City Mark design. The Artwork should be unique, prominent and iconic, and should celebrate the “City Mark,” the five-petaled symbol of Rochester’s “Flour City” past and “Flower City” present that has become a sign of community pride.

Call for Art - Queering Democracy: Art, Identity, and Politics in 2024

Rochester Contemporary Art Center (RoCo) and ImageOut Art seek artist submissions for a juried exhibition opening in Rochester, NY in October 2024. Queer art has achieved greater prominence in recent years, yet the LGBTQIA+ community's struggle for freedom and equality persists. We hope this exhibition will serve as a reflection of our current moment, and as a poignant response to the alarming rise of anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation sweeping the nation.
