OPEN CALL - CROSSING, SPACE FOR TRANSFORMATION

Due to the effects caused by the COVID19 pandemic, the hosting of more than 40 international artists expected for our 2020 residency program at the Centro Negra has been affected.

Faced with this situation, we have decided to start a new initiative. Crossing – Space for transformation is intended for those who need a space to create, hold exhibitions or workshops, focus on analysis and/or promotion of their work, for those who wish to have a coworking office or the ones who want to take a temporary retreat in a space surrounded by nature and a lively artistic community.

We invite all independent creators, entrepreneurs, artists, writers & researchers, cultural agents, audiovisual producers, and people interested in art and nature to check the new possibilities of exchange, collaboration, access to spaces, and resources that our platform is offering.
Your participation will provide support and contribution to the continuity of our project.

Crossing will be active between September 2020 and March 2021. Those interested may choose any of the possibilities offered on our list. Housing can be booked for a period of minimum 2 weeks and maximum 2 months. This initiative is designed to bring together resources, spaces, and knowledge. It facilitates the meeting between people of different origins, backgrounds, and ideas with the common interest of being part of a temporary community based on caring, sharing experiences, and knowledge.

Materic.org - TOWARDS A NOMADIC SPACE

City:

We opened our bodies in 2015, with a physical space in the neighborhood of Santa Eulàlia in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, the dormitory city of Barcelona, a working-class, decrepit industrial territory, an area of real-estate-cultural-human speculation, a testing ground to fatten the usual chauvinists. We have rooted ourselves in L’Hospi during these five years (the same as a raised fist), unpretentious and humble but with a lot of courage and the desire to share and imagine that other cultural spaces are possible, as well as other worlds. We continue to think that they are, we have lived and embodied them together.

We have always stayed in the margins of the margins. We place ourselves and build our own margin in the Trench of Art and Creation, from Sharing, making Community and from the Ephemeral that prevails.

The space of Materic.org in L’Hospitalet has been a temple, a place of learning and sharing in subversive love. We thank this space for its light, generosity and ability to generate energy and synergies.

In June 2020 we saw ourselves without this physical body, after a painful, violent and ultra-neoliberal capitalist process. Mr. owner of the premises has left us without alternatives or negotiations, in the midst of a global crisis.

Our steps continue because we have already traced our pathways. Materic.org has risen up as a nomadic space of radical creation and pedagogy; it has risen as an ethereal body. We have mutated into other becomings. Without physicality we feel free, volatile and light and with you, full of tenderness to continue walking and traveling.

From nomadism we will continue to trace other cultures, art that becomes empowered by being Life and not market, art to share dreams, imaginaries and struggles, art to co-create community.

This nomadism has already taken flight. At this time we have the honor of collaborating with the organisation of  MAR DE ISLAS performance encounter of the Caribbean in Puerto Rico and of being part of ARTefACTe, a performance laboratory for a new cultural institutionality in Barcelona.

A strong subversive hug to the entire community that is and has been accompanying us throughout the process.

Eternal thanks to our expanded family of friends, neighbors, activists, artists, pedagogues, researchers, and beloved bodies.

Deep in the Spanish inland, on a wooded estate of 25 hectares, lies the ecologic artist’s residency arteventura. A distinct philosophy of autonomy and back to basics form the foundation of the residency. The finca covers an area of 25 ha of century old oaks which our visiting artists can fully enjoy at any time. In the front part of the finca we converted an old ruin into a 250m2 communal studio with an inside and outdoor workspace.
Artists in residence can choose between two types of  accommodation: There are 2 individual flats of  ±40 m2, equipped as a flexi-workspace. Next to the studio we offer a 2 bedroom apartment that can be used by a single artist (bedroom +  workspace), or by a duo that wants to work on a joint project. We aim at a maximum of 3 artists (exceptional 4, duo working on a joined project)  in residence at the same time.

Thanks to the friends of arteventura, we can offer the first free residences. We will invite 3 artists to live and work in this magical place, where artists wander and get inspired. Where they are engaged in research and development. Where the emphasis is more on the trajectory then on the results.  The foundation is brand new and still growing. Depending on how many donations we receive, we will extend the funded residences.
