In these hard times of isolation, economic crisis and social distancing Lon-art, more than ever, wants to support its community of artists exploring alternative ways to deliver events. For this occasion at Lon-art we have decided to created: ‘Sheroes in Quarantine’: an exhibition that will be delivered online on both our website and social media channels. The initiative wants to highlighting women’s issues and roles during the COVID-19 social crisis to continue contributing to positive changes in our society, from a gender perspective.

We strongly believe that now is the time to re-think our current social structure and reinvent the way we live and interact with each other. We are in dire need of creative minds, activists and a sense of togetherness to be able to build a more sustainable society where nature, women and marginalised groups are respected and part of the decision-making.

This is a critical moment for our community of artists, where some of them might be already suffering the consequences of isolation and social economic crisis. The initiative will offer visibility not only to their art but also to the many women’s issues that are arising during this time. Our concerns about violences against women have raised up even more, women are exposed not just to domestic violence, but also to other displacements in our current society (you can read more here).

So if you are in the process of or planning to create work that will tell yours or other women’s stories during the COVID-19 time, please apply! We would love to hear from you. Submissions are free and open until the 12th of April.

The exhibition

Suddenly and rapidly people have adapted to being indoors. In a present world-wide crisis, where physical movement is restricted, the idea and purpose of outdoor space is thrown into focus. Connecting with each-other is still possible through different channels, but right now, not in physical space.

This digital exhibition, presented during an unprecedented time of near international lock-down, takes the viewer out of confinement to look through the lenses of a group of artists, each who have produced a significant body of work capturing ways that space shapes and is shaped by human interactions.
