Exploring Patient Data and Surgical Healthcare

Share

City:

Eligibility:

Medical interventions and decisions are driven by data from an increasingly intricate array of measurements and tests, which creates a vivid representation of each patient. This data representation is often complex and obscure to the patient, yet has a profound impact on the trajectory of care.

We are looking for two artists, one focussing on prostate and the other on pancreatic cancer, to develop online based projects that bring together engineers, clinicians and patients to share their experiences of clinical decisions and explore what is needed for patients to feel informed in the face of complex data.

Using arts practice, we seek to facilitate conversations between these stakeholders and develop a final output building on workshop findings. The output is open but should communicate workshop discussions and findings, provoke further engagement with the topics and/or have potential as a communication aid between patients and doctors.

Collaborator Role

Through this artistic collaboration we are interested in exploring emerging themes in clinical practice, such as:

  • the relationship between patients, their data and clinical practice
  • the role of uncertainty and managing risk in clinical interventions
  • the challenge of keeping patients engaged and informed when clinical procedures are becoming increasingly sophisticated

The collaborators will work with a project team from the Wellcome / EPSRC Centre for Interventional and Surgical Sciences, which brings engineers and clinicians together to develop technologies for planning, conducting and rehabilitation from surgery, with chances to also share and learn from each other.

Budget and Timescale

Each of the two projects will offer a maximum of £3,000 in total for artist time and expenses, workshop materials and final outputs. There is no current timeline, but we hope to begin the project in March and expect it will take 2 – 4 months to complete.

WHAT IS ART II | OPEN CALL

City:

Eligibility:

After a very successful first edition in December 2020, we have decided to start our 2021 program with “WHAT IS ART” second edition.

While some artists are keeping a very traditional approach to art, others are taking risks into the unknown and there has always been a constant debate about “What Is Art” and what makes it valuable.

In contemporary world success can be seen in both approaches, great examples are Damien Hirst and David Hockney, two of the worlds most famous and richest artists and yet with such a different approach to contemporary art.

The purpose of this exhibition is to create a dialogue between different approaches to contemporary art and to demonstrate that either way can be successful.

There is no subject restrictions just a couple of guidelines.

Eligible media but not limited:

-painting

-sculpture

-photography

-digital art

-Installation

We had a lot of enquires from foreign artists to exhibit with us but sometimes shipping the work to London in time might be a bit difficult in this challenging period, that’s why we’ve come up with an alternative! If you are one of the accepted artist and you find it hard to ship your work to us, you can send us photos of your work and we can print and frame it for you.

We have 3 available sizes for the frame:

32/32 cm

40/50 cm

Event.

As some of you might know, UK will be in lockdown until mid February, after that all regions will get back to the tier system.

The massive vaccination campaign and the coming of spring gives us a lot of hope that things will slowly get back to normal.

If by any chance London will still be under a lot of restrictions, we will postpone our show until late March or mid April.

For this event we will have time slots of 30 minutes each- between  6 and  9 pm interval. For more info or to book a time slot simply email us at email@boomergallery.net.
