Motion State Dance Film Series- Season 7

Going into its Seventh Season, the Motion State Dance Film Series is the only year-long, traveling short dance film festival in New England devoted to showcasing the diversity of contemporary creative voices exploring the medium of choreography for the camera. By taking the festival “on the road” and into non-traditional film venues, such as art galleries, music halls, performing arts theaters, and university classrooms, the Motion State Dance Film Series seeks to expose the films and filmmakers to new audiences. Every screening is followed by a public Q & A with the curators.

Divergent Synthesis

There is a scientific definition for the complex molecular process of divergent synthesis combining differing components to create a new generation of compounds; but LAUNCH is approaching it on a conceptual level-- more reflective of contemporary art and inspired by our culture. Divergent Synthesis” brings together artists from across Southern California whose practices meld an array of experiences, backgrounds, influences, media, materials and/or methods to create a new and cohesive piece of art. These artists and their works reflect our times and provide an authentic lens to view, interpret, and document contemporary culture.

So Cal Artists- Divergent Synthesis, a LAUNCH Open Call

Fine Grit: Art & Ideas In Wood

Fine Grit is a national juried exhibition of contemporary artists who use wood as a primary material in their work. From traditional techniques such as hand carved sculpture, woodcuts and pyrography to more recent technologies such as laser engraving and 3D printing, artists have long used wood as a source material and medium. Wood comes directly from nature and each piece has its own unique lifecycle, evident in the processes artists and other makers utilize while working with it.

Particular interest will be given to artists who consider the origin of their materials and who use wood as subject matter, addressing topics such as forestry, ecology, architecture, human consumption and the changing climate.
