DCAD and downtown partners will rock the block with April 19 ArtParty

DCAD@20 ArtParty attendees will be able to create it, view it, critique it, buy it and pose with it. “It” is art, and it’ll be the main attraction for the Delaware College of Art and Design fundraiser that will fill more than a block of Market Street with festivity on April 19.

Also invited to the party, which begins at 5:30 p.m. and continues through 8:30 p.m., are tunes, brews and foods provided by vendors from throughout Downtown Wilmington and beyond. Party-goers will enjoy seeing the 150-piece “DCAD@20 ArtParty Exhibition” and buying their favorite paintings, drawings and sculpture. They also can help create a large community mural, add to an interactive sculpture and take selfies with famous artworks recreated by students on DCAD windows.

First galleries and events manager reimagining DCAD spaces

When Kelicia Pitts became the first-ever galleries and events manager at the Delaware College of Art and Design this year, it was a kind of homecoming. Pitts had grown up in Claymont – she’s a member of the Mount Pleasant High School Class of 1996 – but wasn’t sure she’d ever live near home again after moving to Philadelphia.

Experience as a fine art model and as an abstract and street art gallery owner in the Rittenhouse Square area inspired her to pursue a degree that blended her two passions: art and business. She graduated from Philadelphia’s Moore College of Art & Design in 2016 with a degree in curatorial studies and a dual minor in business and fine art.

Members of families known for city development investing themselves in DCAD fundraiser

Members of two Wilmington families already heavily invested both in the art world and in the success of Wilmington and its Creative District are coming together to chair Delaware College of Art and Design’s 2018 spring fundraiser – the DCAD@20 Art Party – in April.

Mati Bonetti de Buccini is a partner and the director of Atelier, an art preservation and storage organization with facilities in Delaware and Pennsylvania. Cindy Pettinaro Wilkinson owns COCA Art, a local art gallery and retailer. Their family businesses develop and invest in real estate in and around Wilmington, Buccini/Pollin Group since 1993 and Pettinaro since 1965.

DCAD-NextFab partnership will enrich college curricula, city arts district

A recently launched collaboration between the Delaware College of Art and Design and NextFab makerspaces aims to enhance DCAD’s programs of study, increase NextFab’s footprint on the city’s Creative District and further the redevelopment of Wilmington’s downtown.

New personnel leading DCAD in new directions this new year

New personnel in several key positions are leading the Delaware College of Art and Design in new directions in an intentional effort to grow DCAD’s enrollment and prioritize community programming and relationships that will enrich the city’s Creative District and aid the broader effort to revitalize its downtown.

President John Hawkins, who has been serving as the interim leader of the College only since June, said he sees a new energy in his team and is excited about where DCAD is headed, both in terms of the fine arts education it provides and the impact a fine arts institution such as DCAD can have in Wilmington and beyond.
