A two-week electro-etching workshop/residency grants in the island of Gran Canaria

A two-week electro-etching workshop/residency grants in the island of Gran Canaria, Spain. July and August 2024

The Electro-etching workshop-residency introduces the artist to an alternative technique of intaglio etching, using a completely non-toxic electrical process. It offers one of the healthiest and most fascinating methods for etching copper, zinc, and iron plates. Among its many other advantages, the electro-etching process does not generate toxic gases, nor does it generate metalic residue that acumulates in the grooves and stops the etching. The mordant does not become exhausted by successive bites and it does not undercut the metal under the varnish. It completely eliminates the harmful spray from rosin or asphalt for aquatints.

Art+Critique: Studio Practice & Critical Studies online course

This course integrates practice and theory to address our concepts of art, how they are transformed and the problems of making art in the broader context of social conflict. The lectures survey the histories and discourses of contemporary art, demystify the art world and provide multiple entry points into critical theory. The syllabus offers a solid background in essential histories and discourses of contemporary art to help artists address questions about their practice and its context: about what art is, how it is judged and how it relates to society.

FREEYOU NEXT Call for Digital Artists

Call for Digital Artists

This call is part of the European FREEYOU Next Initiative, which aims to empower and promote media and data literacy among young people. FREEYOU Next builds on the success of the previous FREEYOU project, which was funded by the Media Literacy for All Programme. The main objective of FREEYOU Next is to transform young people into active thinkers and creative agents in the digital world, rather than simply passive users of social networks. To achieve this, the project seeks to collaborate with artists and digital creators who will work on inspiring tools, foster co-creation processes with young people, and promote interaction between artists, activists, journalists and teachers to improve collective awareness.
