Project Lazaretta: A call to the Stories of isolation and pandemic from the old and the new world

Share

Eligibility:

We are happy to announce an Open Call for our upcoming project: Project Lazaretta: Digital Stories from the Old and New World.

Lazarets used to be quarantine stations, built to prevent plagues from entering the city through people on the ships.

Eye's Walk Digital Festival returns to the Lazarets of Syros and Corfu islands. We visit places that have been quarantine stations for travelers, prisons, places of execution or asylums and aim to explore the search for a better life and hope, which can flourish in the most adverse conditions.

What do spaces tell us about the human condition? What unites us with the thousands of people who passed through the Lazarets of the world? We make this call to keep our tracks alive, to identify traces that make human experience unique and universal.

"Project Lazaretta: Digital Stories from the Old and New World" is supported by the Greek Ministry of Culture and will be completed in two parts:

Part 1
Digital culture platform of art work that draws inspiration from the lazarets of Syros and Corfu, focusing on the modern historical context of pandemic. Digital artists are encouraged to study and approach the history of Lazarets and especially those of Syros and Corfu. (Feel free to contact us for suggested study material.)

  • Form: Digital & Video Art, Screen Dance, Video Performances – maximum duration of 8 minutes.
  • Entry fee: No entry fee is required
  • Prize: Each selected artist will be awarded a compensation of 150 EUR.
  • Deadline: Submission of digital and audio projects by 15 January 2021 to info@eyeswalk.gr

Part 2
Audio documentary from selected thoughts, words and sounds from people living today's Pandemic and Isolation. The audio documentary will lead to the production of soundscape-storytelling in conjunction with Video Art Installation in the two Lazarettas.
This call is open to anyone who wants to participate and does not require participation in Part 1 or previous artistic activity.

  • Form: Participants are invited to send us an mp4 audio with their voice answering the following questions: • What do you see? • What are you listening to? • What do you feel?
  • Entry fee: No entry fee is required
  • Compensation: No compensation for participants
  • Deadline: Submission of digital and audio projects by 15 January 2021 to info@eyeswalk.gr

The fifth edition of BAD VIDEO ART FESTIVAL will take place in Moscow, Russia, in 2021.

We are looking for videos which are at the intersection of bad art, bad painting and bad cinema. We propose to study extreme forms of video art and single out certain video art works as bad videos or "B-videos". Join us if you are interested in the issues of quality and boundaries of art, or just love video art.

The International Bad Video Art Festival (BVAF) is an independent artist-run initiative. Video artists and bad movie fans Natalia Monakhova and Andrey Slaschilin have once decided to find out whether there is something like bad video art. It is well known that bad movies have long ago formed a special cultural field with its own heroes and fans. In other arts sectors the issue of the bad has not been problematized so actively.

There is no competition, no hype. Just bad video art from all over the world because it really exists in this world. And there are artists fearless enough to take part in the Festival without being afraid of labels or disrepute.Bad Video Art Festival is a good example of successful international communication beyond any geographical, social or cultural limits, or fictional ranking.

Unearthing the Archive

Eligibility:

Curator - Aidan Cowling (CANADA)

In a short amount of time, the Internet and digital technologies have dramatically  changed the way we live our lives, and we are beginning to register and quantify how  our daily contact with the digital world has altered the archive. How is technology being  mobilized today to preserve and present archive and history? This residency invites

participants to experience ANIMA Casa Rural through the lens of the archive, and  consider how can the historical archive be used to find a way forward and makes sense  of today.

Throughout the residency we will visit The National Archives of Mexico, Archivo de  Instrumentos Públicos, Archivo del Arzobispado de Guadalajara, Archivo General de  Notarías del Estado de Jalisco, and various archives in the surrounding area. Studio  visits with archivists and local artists, will give participants the opportunity to explore  these archives and further their own research. This residency will develop terms for  working in the archive, and explore examples from contemporary practices that we can  deployed when engaging with archival materials. Workshops on the farm will consider  different ways of digitizing the archive, as well as explore experimental ways that the  archive can be used in your artistic practice like digital editing, green screen,  performance and installation. Participants are encouraged to apply to this residency with  a particular theme or focus they wish to research in the archives.

Hear and Now

Eligibility:

Hear and Now is a drive-through exhibition in the San Antonio Parking Garage on the UT campus that will be on view from March 5 - 7 2021, coinciding with the 2021 TEDxUTAustin conference: Unmute. This project is inspired by Aurora's Area 3 and other innovative projects that offer art experiences outside of traditional spaces. We welcome applications that speak to the expression of thoughts and ideas in our increasingly digital and behind-the-screen world. Hear and Now offers artists, critics, and activists an open framework to articulate artistic perspectives regarding the experience of consciously taking the actions needed to become heard, whether that be literally or figuratively, and unapologetically letting yourself and your intentions be represented without regret or reconsideration plagued by social constructs.

Curated by TEDxUTAustin and the College of Fine Arts at UT Austin, the exhibition addresses the social issues and changes we have recently experienced. We seek to unmute the voices of those silenced in our communities; unmute to speak up about change; unmute who we are as individuals.

TEDxUTAustin is a student-run organization at UT Austin, focused on bringing together creative and critical thinkers of the Austin community through discussions on innovations in technology, entertainment, and design.

Contributions may reflect on:

●  Reflections on communication and communication blockage with an eye towards innovation, forward thinking, and perceptiveness.

●  Comprehending the past, conceptualizing the future, and making the effort in the present to be the voice of change.

Submission guidelines:

●  Deadline: December 31th, 2020, 11:59PM CST.

●  Artists must be based in Austin, Texas

●  Artists working in all media are encouraged to apply.
