“Journey” International Open Call to Artists and Writers—Deadline February 28, 2023

The artist's and writer's call for the ArtAscent Art & Literature Journal Journey issue is now open.

The current issue theme is journey. We are all on a journey to another space. Sometimes our journey is an adventure, a quest, a road trip to push our limits or just to taste life’s pleasures. Other times it is to escape from what is to something better, to heal or find wholeness. What’s the destination? Is the destination more valuable than the path to it? Journeys can be physical, emotional or intellectual; past, present or future; brief or lifelong. Express your journey with words or imagery.

Call for Applications – Residency program in Namibia for artists from Germany

Akademie Schloss Solitude together with the National Art Gallery of Namibia and the Goethe-Institut Namibia is establishing a new residency program that will be committed to a long-term artistic and cultural exchange between Namibia and Germany. With this call for applications, we will offer artists from Germany, especially persons of African descent living in Germany, the opportunity to apply for a fellowship in Namibia.

The residencies are organized in the framework of a two-part workshop series curated by Namibian artist and historian Memory Biwa, which initiates a collective approach to the history of colonial relations between Namibia and Germany and develops new artistic narratives on this topic.

Woman Scream 2023 Call for Submissions for Women Poetry ( Anthology )

Woman Scream Festival, as part of the institutions that collaborate with the initiatives of Action Coalitions for Generation Equality by UN Women, opens its second international call for submission for female poetry. The Woman Scream (Grito de Mujer®) cause celebrates its 13th anniversary of creation since 2011, for this reason, we will be creating a special poetry anthology under the theme “Mother of the Earth”. A compilation of poetry in tribute to farmland women and their rights and an homage to the hundreds of women activists who have raised their voices, suffered abuse or lost their lives standing up for environmental rights.

Open Call to The Mobile Library Magazine

The Mobile Library provides a multi-digital exhibiting experience for artists and writers to showcase their work during the pandemic closures. Each publication is unique, pairing 6 artists and 6 writers together at different stages in their career to build a collaborative experience.

This year, Volume 3 will explore the theme of memory with Issue 1 seeking work that explores memories, moments, and experiences of childhood. What does it mean to record a moment and how do we choose which objects to represent a specific moment of our lives. The decision is a deeply personal one and through this issue we invite you to create works including, but not limited to --paintings, drawings, sculpture, illustrations, found objects, poetry, short stories, essays, journals and more!

The Ghostly Commission

To celebrate the launch of the International Ghost Appreciation Society we’re looking to commission a piece of artwork to be unveiled at our launch event, and stashed lovingly forever in our archive.

As an open-minded and international ghost hunting society, we’re not prescriptive about medium or format. We’re open to poems, paintings, sculptures, films, interpretive dances and more.

The goal is to create something interesting, memorable and which can help define the identity of our nascent ghost hunting society.

The selected artist will be paid £100. The piece will be unveiled at our launch event in January 2023, which will take place in Edinburgh. As such, ideas from local artists are particularly encouraged.
