Contemporary Art Room Gallery is proud to announce their 1st “Portrait” Online Art Competition for the month of August 2019. This is an international competition and artists from around the world are welcome to submit their work. We invite artist and photographers to submit their best artworks related to the Portrait theme. A portrait may be a single person, a group, or self-portrait. A variety of interpretations of the Portrait theme can be submitted. All visual art mediums are acceptable (painting, photography, drawing, sculpture, digital, prints, fiber art, collage or installation art) except sound and video art. 

 All winning artists will receive a digital award certificate. First, second and third place will be largely displayed with an article about the artist and their work. Winning artwork (First place) will be on the poster of the show. Depending on the number and quality of all submissions received,  Merit awards and Honorable Mention awards may also be presented.

Fee is $15 for 2 images of artwork. You may enter more than once,there is no limit to the number of images that an artist can submit. The deadline to apply to this art competition is August 31, 2019.

About The Emerging Talents in Contemporary Art

1a space aims to provide young and emerging curator and artists a platform and resources for implementing conceptual and experimental art project. The Emerging Talents in Contemporary Art encourages local and international talents with curatorial guidance, training and advice to help actualize their artistic project. To enhance reginal and international idea exchange and dialogues, the project will be divided into two parts to engage with talents from different part of the world. Projects that take innovative curatorial approaches and experimental formats will be encouraged.

Part 1: Open Call for Artist/Curator (Pan-Asia/Belt and Road regions)

Exhibtion period: September – October 2019 (exhibtion duration not less than 6 weeks)

Announcement of result: early August 2019

With the aim of encouraging curatorial research in tandem with exhibition planning, the programme provides deserving curatorial talent or curatorial team/ artist or artist group a platform and necessary resources to realize an innovative and experimental project to fill the gap between larger public institutions and commercial ventures. The aim of this curatorial residency programme is to promote arts in Hong Kong with international collaborations and to enhance international curatorial research in Hong Kong. The first Open Call in 2019 autumn will start with inviting 1 art talent/art unit from the Pan-Asia region and “Belt and Road” regions. An honorarium will be provided for selected artist/curator. 1a space provides allowance for flight tickets (for non-Hong Kong curator(s)/artist(s) only), accommodation (for non-Hong Kong curator(s)/artist(s) only), exhibition space and production fee to the curator(s)/artist(s), who produces an exhibition in 1a space in September to October with at least 1 related public programming. S/he will organize and present the exhibition and related public programmes within the residence period. For curator scheme, an inclusive of local artist(s) is encouraged.

All applications submitted will be considered final and treated as such. Applicants will not, under any circumstances, be permitted to add or edit an application once it has been submitted. All incomplete or duplicate applications will be immediately disqualified. All the submitted plans and materials will be entrusted confidentially.

Submission Requirements:

Group and solo exhibition proposals are both welcomed

Curator/curatorial team/artist from Pan-Asia region and “Belt and Road” regions

A no more than 10-page detailed exhibition proposal that outlines both the curatorial statement, background and plan for the exhibition

a short synopsis of proposed project

expectation and objective for joining the project

A preferred duration of stay and if accepted this can be negotiated according to gallery availability and schedule

a working timeline for the exhibition to open in September – October 2019

List of participating artist(s) and short bios for each (maximum 4 participating artist)

A completed Budget Plan with considerations for shipping and/or art production as well as artist fee

2nd Circus Residency: The smallest circus convention in Brazil

The House of Sustainable Arts opens its doors for the Second Circus Residency in the style of "the smallest Circus Convention". We offer 5 days of artistic living and cultural exchange through workshops, classes, community shows and theatrical performances. The residency is an intimate meeting of circus artists in the many artistic languages of clowning, juggling, aerial arts, dance, sound and lighting, spoken word and musical performance. This annual residency is occurring for the second time from September 11-15, 2019 in the historic neighborhood of Dois de Julho, Salvador, Brazil. We invite all artists and collectives who identify with the Circus community to present a proposal for a workshop or an act to present during the residency. As a participant you will stay in the CAS - Casa de Artes Sustentáveis residency accommodations, take workshops and classes from other artists from around the world, watch and/or be part of several shows presented in the four story historic house and outside in the thriving cultural neighborhood in which we are located. CAS supports the logistics of your travel, offers interpretation services and guided tours to experience the cultural and historical richness of Salvador da Bahia, the epicenter of Afro-Brazilian culture, religion and art.

Chicago Public Library Polish American Heritage Month

The Chicago Public Library is seeking artists to exhibit during October 2019 in celebration of Polish American Heritage Month. We are looking for artists who are of Polish descent or whose work showcases Polish traditions, customs or heritage. We are happy to have any type of visual art - photographs, paintings, sketches, etc. or small 3D art such as jewelry, small sculpture, paper-cutting, fiber arts, etc.

To enter: Please submit a brief artist's biography, artist's statement, contact information, if you have a desired neighborhood to exhibit in and 3-5 .jpeg images of your work. We also welcome links to artist's websites, press coverage or social media accounts. While we do our best to accommodate artists by placing their exhibit in their desired neighborhood branches, this is not always possible as we strive to showcase artwork during Polish American Heritage Month in communities all across Chicago. Artists who are selected to exhibit during Polish American Heritage Month will be required to complete the Chicago Public Library's insurance coverage form by August 26, 2019 forms will be distributed after artists are matched with a branch location. By entering you understand that if your work is selected for exhibition, you may be assigned to exhibit at any one of the Chicago Public Library's 81 locations. Lastly, artists or their designee must be available to install and remove their artwork - regrettably, we cannot accept long distance entries or artwork for display that arrives via mail or courier.
