Ripple "涟"

A Space is pleased to announce the open call for Ripple - an immersive performance & art party - in July 18th at iidrr gallery. Ripple (涟 lián) is a multisensory gathering that celebrates the nuances of diverse cultures. Just as the character “涟” suggests, Ripple encourages the connection of diasporic communities with water, evoking a symbolic hydrography within the exhibition space. Although water flows in many directions, it ultimately returns to its source. Our aim is to create a cultural hub—a utopia that rewinds nostalgic memories in contemporary new mediums.

What happens when the mediums of photography and drawing collide? Editing software provides myriad ways to draw on, with, and through digital images, while photographic objects can be scratched, erased, written on, and more through physical mark making. How do these gestures change, inform, conceal, reveal, an image's message, an image's form?

“Abstract” International Open Call to Artists and Writers—Deadline August 31, 2023

The artist's and writer's call for the ArtAscent Art & Literature Journal Abstract issue is now open.

Abstractions are all around us. Ideas can be abstract, existing as an idea, feeling or quality but not having a tangible existence. Some conversations can be abstract, vague, theoretical, and not based on particular examples or facts. And, of course, there is abstract art which evokes feelings without trying to represent the appearance of people or things realistically. Abstract art, like poetry, offers a fragment of a mysteriously familiar narrative without directly revealing it in a realistic way. Reveal your most ABSTRACT thoughts.

"S l o w S e l f i e"

"Slow Selfie" is a juried show of self-portraits that require more time and effort than a simple cell phone snap. We are looking for artists who want to explore the complexities of self-representation through a thoughtful and intentional approach.

We invite all artists to submit up to 3 of their Slow Selfies for consideration, whether it be through painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, or mixed media. We want to see your personality, emotions, and experiences come to life through an imaginative and innovative depiction of oneself.

Entries are open until 11:59pm August 1, 2023, and juried results will be notified by email on August 11, and announced on the website on August 19th.

Re:discover Barrow Lost Shops - A High Street Heritage Action Zone project

Art Gene and BarrowFull are seeking a visual artist to take up a residency to create artwork in Duke Street, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.

The Brief

This is an exciting opportunity for a ‘temporary’ work to be sited in/on Duke Street, an impressive historic artery in the centre of Barrow-in-Furness between the Town Hall and the Public Library. The work could be (following negotiation with owners) in empty shop units, on windows, a billboard or the pavement, in bus shelters, flower beds or anywhere to reflect the artist’s practice, but would need to be visible within the street.
