ART WOMAN IDENTITY REVOLUTION
Visionary or revolutionary women?

Curated by Dores Sacquegna
ART woman 2022 | Art Exhibition in Lecce, Italy

XXXI Edition - Art Project signed by Primo Piano Special Project

Preview

The research project analyzes and compares the various declinations of the female and gender category, according to a perspective centered on contemporary art,  reviving new identities that disregard the roles between MALE and FEMALE and finally, manifesting an art as an expression personal of an individuality and that crosses the borders between genders. Gay culture itself gains greater visibility in political, social and artistic terms, so that we are witnessing the affirmation of a poetics of mixing, of the contamination between "high" art and mass culture and which soon become the triumph of kitsch culture , good product accessible to all and hedonism.

The choice of the chronological period to be taken into consideration in this art project is the contemporary phenomenon between IDENTITY, RECOGNITION and RESISTANCE. A project of multicultural identity, which takes into consideration the aspects of female, male, eco-feminist, queer theory and LGBTQ+ art, to give a multidisciplinary cut to the debate of the last decades, implementing a peaceful revolution on human rights, which enhances differences and implements a profound change from the point of view of the man-woman relationship, and also, the redefinition of identities and traditional social roles in a global scenario that is becoming increasingly unstable and unpredictable.

Mission

The mission is to propose a philosophical, political and anthropological reflection on the role of women and different gender identities in art, to renegotiate this debate in visual, critical and methodological terms, recalling the origins of a world linked to magic and rituality of the divine feminine, to Mother Earth and her holistic power that returns in the infinite cycle of life, despite the different contexts and conflicts that have defined and characterized the world.

CALL FOR PAPERS - Journal issue on British Curatorial Practices

Share

Theme:

Country:

Eligibility:

Following our British Curatorial Practices session at the Association for Art History 2021 Conference, we are now looking for further article proposals on the same topic in view of publishing a special issue on a peer reviewed academic journal.

OVERVIEW

Since the mid-to-late 19th century, curators worldwide have adapted from the scholarly and administrative art expert archetype (George, 2015) to one that ‘possesses an authorial/artistic function’ (O’Neill, 2012), in which the ‘making’ takes centre stage (Acord, 2010). Have British curators followed the same evolution, or are there distinctive characteristics that have historically set them apart from their colleagues abroad?

Through a series of case studies covering a range of periods, art forms, circumstances and locations within the country, this special issue will discuss the history of curators in Britain, reflecting on how they have engaged with their economic, political, and professional contexts from Victorian times to the present day (Black, 2000). Moving away from the notion of centre vs periphery to consider instead the constellation of practices taking place across the country, this special issue will explore the distinctiveness of British curatorial training and practices over time, whilst researching the impact of curation on the art market and art education; and articulating the networks established with artists, institutions, colleagues, critics, connoisseurs, private collectors, commercial art galleries and public powers. In doing so, the issue will shed light on concepts of internationalism and Britishness in curatorial discourses, as well as exploring class and gender inclusion in the profession.

Some artists even went into debt just to use the color! With so many intriguing shades of blue to work and so many meanings and representations, show us TRUE BLUE through your perspective.
